Description About Pac-man and the arguments against him and other platformers
youtu.be/WRhyHpMUzHk?t=5m51s

Sonic on the other hand is a special case. He's suppose to be the anti-mario yet not only is that seen is a bad thing when other games are criticized when they are like Mario, but Sonic is the only platforming/action series where a crowd of man-children cried for him to be more like Mario, to the point Izuka GEARED THE ENTIRE SERIES FOR THEM!
mynintendonews.com/2010/10/12/…

The other point here to is not only is being the anti-Mario a bad thing, though it's pretty much the best way to sum it up, you can look and see the disdain man-children have against him as a character entirely. He's trying too hard to be cool, because these guys always seem to have a problem with cool, and he's not "FUN" because his narratives are played straight or taken seriously, rather then running through pastel colored worlds featuring mountains with faces on them like a bad mushroom trip.... oh wait. All of this to somehow fix Sonic, fix his gameplay, even though everything got fixed right out of the damn game for a play style that aged faster then milk. Some fix that was, and when you do bring up a problem against this gameplay, all other gameplay styles had complaints but when you criticize them now, all you get is "The old ones sucked", "they weren't perfect", and for the dumbass, "I don't understand". They sure didn't have a hard time understanding why everything else was wrong though, now their claiming illiteracy. Of course this is done to justify how the fanbase is bad and doesn't know what it was since we complain about everything.

Lastly is an recent conversation I was in about Shadow's guns with someone trying to justify the complaints, he had this to say and my reply follows.
("Conker, on the other hand, fits very well to everything in his game"
So it automatically fits even though Conker falls under EVERY situation Shadow was under, but you're trying to call a technicality on "The rest of the world"? Again, this makes no sense. It's as if you see their worlds and taking how they are at face value for a set of rules that don't exist. That's the main issue if anything, using everything as a set of rules when nothing was said that characters can't do anything outside of the norm.)

One reason why everything is a mess is the constant justification of ignorance and neglect of validation, where any argument somehow works despite not considering it's validation, or lack thereof. This combined with what I said here, looking at certain aspects as a set of rules when Sega themselves don't good deep enough into Sonic's narrative and content outside of the actual story of the game. There's a reason this argument never occurred with the Archie and Fleetway fanbases but did with the "Game fans". The archie and fleetway comics actually do in depth with their narrative, where you do see characters using guns of some kind, how realistic they are shouldn't be a focal point to the issue, but keep in mind they have to at least shoot lazers for the most part because you have to visually illustrate the effects of almost any injury. Keep in mind that while realistic guns can kill and cause bleeding and/or death, so can being stabbed with spikes, crushed, or even hit with lazers. It just seems that in video game and cartoon land, you can soften things up, but that also goes for realistic guns as well. Either way, this still goes back to the point that it's the Sonic games, or Japanese Sonic material in general, is far less in touch with it's own world then U.S. and Euro content.

You can't look at those and go "other mobians don't do this" because mobians are depicted doing more then just the norms of sonic games, but there needs to be a realization that nobody said or made any rules that mobians could or couldn't do certain things or simply interact with the rest of the world, meaning the argument on the subject is not needed. You don't see mobians using guns in games often NOT because they're not suppose to, if that be the case Nack the Weasel would've never had a gun of any kind in the games, they aren't shown doing so because the only mobians around are the main characters who are never shown interacting with their world. This is the same issue where the team argument comes from, where people think teams can only consists of characters who fill certain roles or there's no room for them when many of them, a mindset that comes from how Heroes was designed for balance and not that it's an official rule for building teams. I talked about this here. psyco-the-frog.deviantart.com/…

I could spin my wheels further but I'd just be rambling at this point. Instead, just think more about these aspects rather then just look at them as a set of rules.

I’ve seen people bash PMW just because it uses a couple of mechanics previously seen in DK Country and Crash Bandicoot.
By their logic, Banjo-Kazooie is inherently bad because it β€œstole” mechanics from Mario 64

It really fucking how people still to this day bash Pac-Man World simply saying "Pac-Man isn't known for Mario 64 ripoffs" or that his game "Isn't as revolutionary nor has aged well as Mario 64".

Need I remind you I also think Super Mario Sunshine is a much better game than Mario 64? lmao

I think this is more due o the reception of Mario first going 3D rather then being revolutionary, and many of these corporate slaves have any idea what they're saying most of the time and just hungry for that Italian di... "sausage".

Also, sorry but Sunshine was boring as hell to me, but to be honest, after Superstar Saga, I've had no motivation to play Mario games at all.

To me, The Wii U era was Mario's "dark age" which, honestly: Made me drop out near completely and I ironically played more Sonic than Mario during that point simply because... His games at that time for the most part were downright mediocre or boring like NSMB2 or Sticker Star. Β If anything? Bland shit like that is what made me drop out, and honestly lose trust up until the announcement of Mario Odyssey. ((Sure 3D World could be seen as a bright spot in the dark age, But even Sonic's dark times had their bright spots.))

And it's ironic considering I typically love big-budget 3D Mario a lot, It's something I freakin' love. But the lack of a true title akin to Sunshine or Galaxy on the Wii U? It probably shouldn't be hard to see why people were let down. And sure some people will say NSMB was "Mario staying true to his roots" or that it sells more, But staying too close to your roots can be a detriment. ((I already very much criticized Sonic, Mega Man AND even Pac-Man for doing this, Pac-Man especially as I fear the CE games are becoming the IP's "NSMB" when plenty of people like me just want a return to the Pac-Man World formula. Ghostly Adventures just didn't cut it... At all, It didn't even have the core Pac-Man mechanics like PMW did.))Β

I keep telling people Mario was losing value and relevancy during the Wii U era, Noticably. But of course they will keep denying that even though "NSMB Syndrome" clearly was making people, including me and several of my friends turn their backs on the series. I don't like Mario because he's "revolutionary" or "innovative", I want GOOD GAMES. And NSMB2, NSMBU, Sticker Star and Color Splash just... Aren't very good games. 3 are mediocre at best and Sticker Star was just downright bad at worst IMO.

Things like this made me PINE for Sunshine's creativity and artistic liberties/"risk" taking again.

I can't stress how fucking dumb of a statement it is to gear a game series to another game series that is SUPPOSED TO BE RIVALS. Iizuka is straight up rock stupid for even suggesting that.Β

I think I heard some people say that Shadow's game should have been like Conker's bad fur day, honestly don't agree but just thought I'd bring that up since you brought up someone comparing Shadow to Conker, thought I think he should be more like Jak 2 but that's beside the point. Again I kinda wish they went with the Western Canon in the games. Also I feel real sorry for Pac Man, I mean he can't seem to be able to do anything outside of the arcade maze stuff with out being accused of copying Mario when it's actually the other way around .Β

And I'm probably the only one REALLY getting tired of Pac-Man being nothing more than small edits to the OG arcade formula lacking the creativity of what made games like Pac-Mania and Pac-Man Arrangement so great. I fear of the CE games becoming the IP's "New Super Mario Bros" as it's only gotten weaker and weaker with it's sequels.

I want the expanded take on the formula things like Pac-Man World did. I'm somebody who wants to explore more than just the small cramped mazes.Β

I really enjoyed Pac Man world 2, so I also wish he would have more games like that. I also kind of like that version of pac land over the futuristic city with teenage pacman in that recent cartoon they have.
