Description
Laid down in 1835 at the port of Genoa, and commissioned in 1839, the di Santarosa was Italia-Piedmonte's first steam-powered warship.She was intended to be able to outrun the ships of the Austrian navy as part of the preparations for the Risorgismento under the House of Savoy.
Armed with 2 200mm Paixhans-style guns on either side of the fore, as well as a battery of 8 smaller shot-firing guns aft of the paddles.
