Description At last, a (perhaps) definitive size for the Crossbow-class! Admittedly, I've never really had that obsessive an interest in this 'fact,' basing everything on what just looked  'right' to me and not worrying about inches, feet or meters. But putting it alongside the queen of them all, I felt like I should try to get their relative sizes matched up, and while I had them 'parked' together, I figured now was as good a time as any to put a number to it.

I'm no canon-junkie when it comes to these things; I neither know nor care what 'he says' or 'she says' is the 'right' measurement for Enterprise - I'm going by 947', the size I grew up with in The Making of Star Trek, and then sizing the Crossbow-class to it based on, of all things, window sizes and deck spacing . The Crossbow is thus 1.044x longer, rounded to 989'. In this comparison, it becomes even more clear that, while now established that they have very similar footprints, pretty much every component of the Crossbow is larger, especially the nacelles; its architecture tucks everything in closer, making it appear more robust, with its mass more concentrated. It's a muscle car, compared to a sports car .

Aaaaannnddd that's pretty much where my geekery ends on this subject. I just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone who was wondering how the ships compare, and to make it easier for me to stay consistent ...

Well thanks alot.  Now I have to go back and fix my ships scale chart.

All kidding aside, this size does suit it well to the well to the role the USS Crossfield plays, that of a mobile repair and re-equip ship.  A ship that size could contain even more workshops, new equipment stores, repair crews and Worker Bees.

Sorry to mess with your chart (although I have to confess that it was one of the things that incited me to try to finally establish a true scale for the ship ). Even when I first created it, I stated that it was 'similar' in size to the Constitution-class, which obviously still gives plenty of room for interpretation . When I modeled it, though, I actually laid out a vertical grid of decks, in an effort to avoid having variations from one part of the ship to another; unfortunately, that part of the the modeling was lost in a hard drive crash, so pretty much all I have left is the Poser model to 'reverse engineer' from .
