Your eyes opened slowly, seeing nothing but the pristine white of the ceiling paired. Were where you? Colors began to form as blurry vague shapes, a hint of green there, some blue there. What caught your attention was the familiar chocolate brown mass in the corner of your eye. You turned towards it, blinking trying to clear your vision. Your body felt weak and weary, but your hand moved towards the figure.

Then you felt calloused hands quickly grab on to yours. They were cold, but the feeling was warmly familiar. Your eyes began to clear up, and in front of you was your boyfriend, Oikawa Tooru.

His face was mixed: happiness, sadness, worry, surprise, shock, all exuding from his face. Your eyes trailed from his face to his hands, you saw bandages on your arms. You were in a hospital. It finally began to sink in. The memories rushed back to you like a flood.

You were involved in a car accident, and got heavily injured. Luckily, you survived. As thankful as you were for your survival, sadness hit your heart heavily as you looked at Oikawa again.
His lips were moving but you couldn’t hear anything. All you could hear was a faint muffle, but that was all. No words could be made out.

You felt surge in your face as tears welled up in your eyes, blurring everything again. Until you couldn’t see Oikawa talking anymore. You would no longer hear him. None of his silly rambling about aliens anymore. No more “Ya-hoo [F/N]-chan!” to greet you in the mornings anymore. Your quiet moments together wouldn’t even be the same anymore.

A soft piece of cloth patted at your eyes gently until you could see Oikawa’s face again, his brow wrinkled in worry and his face stained in tears that you wanted to wipe away. Your hand reached to touch his face before he took it gently, signaling you one finger as if to say, “Wait just a moment, Okay?” and left.

You watched the dust dance in the sunlight for what seemed like an eternity . Your thoughts dwelled on the face that you could no longer hear. The overwhelming feeling over everything being changed took over your chest. You felt your tears fall behind your ears.

Oikawa returned a clipboard in one arm and gripping onto a pen in the other. His presence calmed you down as he helped you sit up on your bed.

“How are you feeling?” he wrote on the paper.

You nodded in response.

“Can you hear anything?”

The feeling in your chest tightened again as you shook your head. His face became upset, but he then smiled at you softly.

“Then let’s learn sign language together alright?”

Tears poured from your eyes as you nodded. He moved closer to you pulling you closer to him. You couldn’t hear anymore. You may never be able to hear ever again. His voice would eventually fade from your memory one day.

But you felt his heart beat. You felt his love. You could hear it loud and clear.
