I originally made this for the Young Justice Appreciation Month on tumblr; however, because of various issues in my personal life (and the fact that December is pretty much the worst month of the year for me) I was unable to get it finished in time.

But here it is anyway: bug aliens participating in totally innocent cuddling on a bed.

Because why not?

I can so see this happening in a AU story plot. It just feels right! Do you suppose, cultural wise, this sort of paring is the norm on the Reach homeward? You know, pairing the strongest of leaders with the most intelligent of minds?

That is entirely possible. o3o

I'm just saying that since these guys are so advanced in both technology and military tactics, it just seems highly plausible.Β

Although... I does beg the question of, what the heck happened with the Ambassador? I mean he could work a crowd incredibly well, but his foresight left a lot to be desired, ya know?

No no, yeah. Pair off the best with the best so that the future generation is even better. I could possibly see that. o3o

Maybe the Ambassador was just having an off week.

They really should have made a 3rd season just so dive deeper into the possibility of seeing the Reach home world while dealing with Darkside and his home world of Apocalypse. I mean they were building up towards that particular conflict since season one.

An off week? He pretty much threw all reasoning out the window the second he failed to realize that the blue scarab was literally talking to him independently of it's host. Seriously, that there should have been a red flag to have it and it's "potential metahuman" host examined like the Head Scientist suggested. I'm sorry but if something I've built started doing something I know for a fact it shouldn't be able to do, I'd want to find out how and why rather than assume I still have control over it. I don't know, maybe he was just too overly confident or just too arrogant to really think the whole thing through. Unless the Reach have some kind of social structure that just automatically puts them in such ranking positions. You know like, nobles and/or high society are in authoritive positions, Middle class are in military and science, and Low class is general labor and/or slavery?

I'm not so certain that season 3 would have had much of Jaime in it. Since his big storyline was pretty much wrapped up by the end of season 2, I could easily see his involvement in season 3 being more like Wally's was in season 2: he's there, but he isn't getting nearly as much screen time as he did before. That's just me though. XD

They should just make a Blue Beetle tv show.

That is a good point and a possibility... Unless they decide to recreate that crisis in the comics where he ends up missing for an entire year when really he was fighting in some strange demential battle that, for him, lasted hours if not a few days. (Dang space/time continuum and its paradoxes.)

And you're right! Why haven't they done one yet? He's got a pretty good fanbase all on his own and YJ is like his second appearance in the animated DC universe. (First for me was Batman the Brave and the Bold) He's got a real interesting story that can be built up on in many ways.

Aww wow, this is rather a touching scene! You know, you never quite imagine antagonists as blasΓ© about killing (like the Reach, or simply aliens portrayed as villains to begin with) to be so... affectionate and cuddly. But you just proved everyone wrong! Especially with these two, who seem to need some hugs every once in awhile, after dealing with the Ambassador's shit all the time. I like that you went there, and I'm totally going with you! Yay Reach fluff!!

Your cel illustrations have gotten so amazing. I love the lighting, wow! The way you progressed towards heavier shadows in the back is excellent, really gives the moment a sense of time, all the colors a sense of depth. Great job with highlighting the sheets, too. I was just chatting with someone about how difficult sheets are to do right, all those tiny wrinkles and draping folds. But you did well, and it's not, like, overloaded with details, so your focus goes right to the "couple".

Amazing job on Black's armor; all the lines look perfect and where they should be. And that reference sure gave you a close contact pose which you worked nicely. Great job on the positioning and anatomy. The only thing that threw me at first was Black's overall body shape: at first I thought it was Jaime, since there's a small, slight frame. I think with Dawur's size, the Scientist would be buried against his chest, hidden under those massive arms. XD

But overall, love it! Such a cute artwork!!

Calm-down cuddle after dealing with boss's bullshit.

Now that you mention it, yeah, I should have made Black bigger. Whoops. DX It might have been because of the reference I was using that he ended up that way. Something I need to keep in mind when I use references. XP (maybe I missed it because his hand was giving me an obscene amount of trouble XP )

I'm really glad that all of the coloring and shading looks good! Shading has always been something I struggle with, sometimes I don't know where it should go, can't figure out where the light source is coming from, how dark the shading should be, so I'm really, really glad that it looks good! Same with the sheets.

Oh man, I wonder what the boss would think? XD

I certainly can't fault you for that. I'm still struggling with anatomy and the last thing I think about are the characters' heights. Which usually leaves me in a pickle because then I'm trying to figure out nifty digital tricks to make one bigger/taller, so I don't have to re-draw the whole thing. Using references, too, plays with your eye, because you're trying to draw what you see, so the height and weight is already there.Β Ugh, art struggles.Β (Hands! Every time I draw 'em it's like, "Nope, just kill me now.")

You did an amazing job with the colors! I'm always impressed with your work, and every time I see a new piece you get better and better! Light sources tend to slip my mind, even when I specifically pin-point one for myself. In my head I'm selfishly going, "But a shadow would look so good right there!" What I have the most trouble doing is highlights. I can do flats and shadows okay, but as soon as I put a lighter color and try to find contours, it looks... over-worked and odd.
