Description
So when I was doing my werewolf research for an ask I discovered that there is almost no such thing as a werewolf in folklore. It led me to think about the sorts of things that would count as werewolves in the Otherworlds.Werewolf stories mostly involve either people either willingly becoming wolves via a potion or wolfskin belt/cloak or getting turned into a wolf as a punishment of some kind.
I came up with three options:
1: Wolf changelings. Fairy changelings with a wolf cloak. Most changelings are female, I imagine this would be a rare male kind. They can do usual fairy changeling stuff, plus they can change into a wolf with the aid of their cloak.
(seriously, like I don't even think I've ever heard of a male changeling.)
2: Garwulf. Also referred to in the Otherworlds as wolf yokai. They can change into a wolf willingly at any time. In fact, their human form is their secondary form, as it is with all yokai. In some places, they have to hide their species, but where they don't there is usually some tell-tale sign of their true form, such as slightly odd hair or pointy teeth.
(note that these would not be classified as yokai in folklore! But in the Otherworlds, anything that has both an animal and human form and can switch between the two, i.e: a kelpie, is classed as a yokai)
3: A werewolf. This is (usually) a human under a curse. The light of the full moon triggers the spell and they are forced to change into a wolf. There ought to be several ways to break the curse, and some variations may cause the curse to spread, but it will vary from spell-caster to spell-caster.

From what I've seen, yeah they would qualify. (Although I think your lycans can use magic, and yokai usually have very limited magical abilities besides their natural ones)

One cure I heard for a Brazilian type of werewolf that I think is as close to the modern version of werewolves that you can get was this:
They have to run over seven churchyards, seven graveyards and seven crossroads while they are a wolf. Otherwise, the curse will never be broken AND they'll be doomed to become a dog ghost and wander the Earth when they die...
I don't actually know any other cures... I did werewolf research quite recently for an ask answer, actually -
So, werewolves then.So some time ago, when I did an 'Ask Will and Victor' I ended up totally stumped when :iconAnimeHalf-Breed: asked:
'Victor, you encounter a werewolf. Inner instincts tells you to kill it?'
The reason I was stuck is that I knew very little about werewolves from a folklore standpoint. Zero, in fact. So I started to do some research.
I got stuck.
'Werewolf' folklore, such as it is, was all over the place, with nothing being terribly consistent and certainly none of this silver bullet and full moon stuff.
The reason?
Everything I knew about werewolves was nothing to do with folklore at all, it was made up by the movies. All the stuff about the full moon, the mad or uncontrollable behaviour, the vulnerability to silver and the whole 'if you get bit' thing... all nonsense from a folklore point of view. In fact, the thing with the silver and the getting bit passing on the curse is part of VAMPIRE folklore.
I need to do more research, but so far, what I've found out is this -
There are several
You can see 's comments with the proper details of the werewolf I'm talking about underneath. (I got this snippet of info from her)
These are how werewolf folklore fits into my own universe though. I write books, you see. (see my signature or the bottom of my journals for links to samples if you're interested)

Awesome! I'm so glad you like it!
If you're interested, my webcomic Vampires Don't Belong in Fairytales happens in the same universe (though the characters are mostly from the sequel I'm still working on)

There's a Miss Prince folder too with more stuff, but the comics are more self-contained, if you know what I mean.

This is a good explanation
(does that mean my Aardrin is a werehorse in your definition? )

No, he's just a cursed human. Maybe if he was walking around as a human except during full moon I'd tempted to call him that, but I'm pretty sure your Transformed don't work that way X3

Nope, not generally Aardrin is the only one who can go back and forth, the rest are stuck as horses
The name werehorse is just too amusing not to think about though
