love the light reflecting on the water.
a friend of mine was going home on the train after a long day at work....the sun setting...on its last minutes....and a child points out to his mother..."look mom...the Day is going away"

I'm glad you like it. Sometimes I don't know why I post this stuff, lol, because landscapes aren't my forte, but it's nice when someone comments like you did, with a little story
Thank you!

This is pretty, but I think the rocks in the foreground are a tad too dark for my tastes. You could lighten them up a bit in photoshop, and I think that would benefit the picture. I do like that the dark clouds are repeated in the water though, it's pretty dramatic.

Yeah, I was actually working on that right now with the rocks in photoshop, great minds think alike I suppose
Since I know very little about anything other then color adjust and such, it's been a pain trying to figure out how to edit and keep it as natural as possible, I did most of this in lightroom, which I know how to use about as well as I know how to have a penis, which isn't very well, since I'm a girl - so I transferred this this morning in to photoshop to work on it in that thing people call LAYERS.
Thanks for the advice, awesome to know that what I am seeing wrong others are too - well not wrong, but...something that could be improved upon

You should practice using the sponge tool and the burn tool. They give the most natural adjustments in my opinion. and lol, layers. I like barely use them unless I'm doing a lot of changes.

I've never really used them before, it's weird. I'll paint and do all my editing on the actual picture usually - but one layer seems to be a good idea for all this stuff i'm learning because i can easily go back to the original that way and see what i changed and where i messed it up
sponge. Gotcha.

Well it can be super-useful when you're learning, because you can just hit the little eyeball symbol and see exactly what a tool is doing and how it affects everything. So yeah for learning, I definitely give layers a .
and yeah, sponge, burn, dodge. I think they're under the eraser? I dunno, they get switched around, it's different in different versions. But I like the way they work.

I understand dodge and burn, I think desaturate is grouped with those, is that the sponge tool?

I'll use it then, and see - though doesn't that just make things black and white, in essence?

basically. but you can weaken the effect, to get some really nice discoloration in specific areas.

*nod* Still need to try this - going to do it today if I can get a moment in to load up my photoshop. I'm so pleased that I know where this tool is it's almost good enough for me, I almost don't want to go play with it lol

You had a very busy sky to work with I see....just a beautiful shot and great idea leaving the small piece of shoreline. It gives the shot that much more depth!

The one thing I've read about over and over and over again on nature photography is to have an interesting foreground - make sure to have something that draws the eye that isn't the main focal point, in essence - I've been trying to apply that to what I do for a while now, I'm hoping to get the most out of that general idea, but it's actually pretty tricky. You find yourself wanting to just take a picture of the sky, right? But it would look better if you say, angled the trees so they are looming but not overpowering, or the rocks on the beach, etc.
I do agree that it was a very busy sky - but British Columbia sunsets are incredibly colorful

That is truly great advice and some I am going to start incorporating more into my rise/set shots when possible. I can see that the word colorful hardly does your sets up there any justice....breathtaking my friend!
