Ever since introduced us to her ancient robotic pantheon and- in particular- her version of The Goddess Athena this little idea has been sitting in my head. As soon as I noticed the similarity of the markings on Athena's Sword with that of the Robot Master Sword Man's- not to mention his canonical lore that the sword was an ancient relic unearthed by Wily via an archeological dig (what is it with Mega Man roboticists and their penchant for studying archeology as a minor?)- I've often thought of how a conflict would go between these two combat giants. Wily, of course, would never allow such robotic mysteries to go unmolested, and the missing weapon would doubtless be of concern to the pantheon, particularly one endowed with the gift of fire.

Perhaps it was once the prize of the builder Hephaestus that was either abandoned for being too powerful, or laid to rest as a sign of honor?

Originally I'd thought that Athena would make short work of Sword Man, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that Wily's robots are capable of taking on entire militaries and coming out on top. The man knows his stuff, and only Rock is able to stand up to him. So perhaps the battle wouldn't be as one-sided as one might think.

I doubt Doll has really given this whole little schpiel much thought, but it's just who I am sometimes. I will often take OC characters and concepts and think about how they would actually fit in with the canonical lore of the series, and how the canon characters would react to them. I've done this before with some of Doll's concepts .

I feel like I made Athena a bit TOO petite in comparison to Sword Man, though. Doll just has a way of drawing her that gives her such a presence!
