Awesome looking Muto is awesome. Also, Actinovore... MAN, I love that title! Outside of '-vore' part of the title, where did you get the 'actino-' part?

Also, nucleosynthesis. That was always a title I had in mind when kaiju consumed radiation. How does that sound? And not just confined to the 2014 universe, either.

Actinides, Actinium, whatnot.
Nice idea.

Ahh, I see! Most fitting.

Nicely done. You really captured the look of MUTO really well.

*sigh* Damn these thing's design was uninspired.

How so?

It's the Super 8 monster and the Cloverfield monster all over again. Hollywood just sucks at creating original designs for movie monsters. Apart from Pacific Rim, but even then the designs were fairly repetitive in certain osseous factors.

You've got it completely wrong. Get "Godzilla: The Art of Destruction", and you'll see.

I don't care what the worked up to to make it. Their final design is unoriginal as shit.

Well you're as ignorant as shit. If you don't know their process, then you can't say it's unoriginal. Hell, the Super 8 creature looks more like Clover than the MUTOs.

Clover had fingers on its forelimbs, and its forelimbs sprawled forward and outward. It also had a tail, and distinguishable sensory organs, and a tail (and giant fleas).
The Super 8 creature stood upright, had 4 arms and 2 legs, distinguishable sensory organs, and looked a lot more humanoid.
The MUTOs had an insect-like appearance, SEXUAL DIMORPHISM, bioluminescence, a triangular jaw, the female had an egg sac, the male had wings...and were inspired NOT by the latter two creatures, but by insects and crustaceans.

If you're going to blather on any longer, I'll point you in the direction of skybolt . He knows a lot more about the design process of the MUTOs than you do.

Well everyone has their own opinions, and you can't please everyone. I didn't actually draw any inspiration from the Cloverfield or Super 8 monster...but I can point you in the direction of creatures I was inspired by.

On a postitve side, this is pretty cool dude! Β

(p.s you not a cunt)

My point exactly. I would like to see where you drew inspiration from myself, too!

Thanks, Matt! Proper recognition from one of my new artistic idols!

(p.s thanks a bunch, and I didn't take him seriously.)

Nice one - you got the proportions down pat.
Is "Actinovore" an actual name for the phenomenon? I know hardly anything actually eats radiation like that aside from a few fungi, but...

Pulsarium In reply to Adiraiju [2014-06-01 23:26:51 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man! I drew it with the design fresh out of my mind!

I came up with the term, I think. Aaaand upon checking, I did! Well whaddya know? They should use the term in-science and in-canon!

Spacer176 In reply to Pulsarium [2014-06-24 14:31:56 +0000 UTC]

Well as Ardiraiju indicated there's hardly anything that "eats" radiation. So far the closest to "actinovore" is "radiotrophism", which only really happens with...certain fungi.

news.nationalgeographic.com/ne… this is what you're probably thinking of. Radiation might be more of a catalyst for cell growth than a food source since radiation is not known for being something rich in minerals and nutriesnts, the understanding is still early days. Who knows, given that the MUTO placed inside a nuclear waste dump (And I remember something about the radiation from the Bikini Atoll nuclear "test" making this Godzilla as big as he was) was triple the size of the Japan MUTO, this discovery may have been their inspiration.
