I'm adding a layer on top of the image and setting its blend mode to from "normal" to "colorize" then painting color into that layer. It only adds color but leaves the values(darks and lights) alone. This is all in painter, but its similar to the "color" blending mode in photoshop.

I can't begin to tell you how good this piece is.
Not only having the person in a certain perspective, rather than only having it in 2D, but also drawing everything anatomically correctly, you've reached a simple, but yet complicated design.
The character itself is simple, not too complicated and not too many trinkets which add up to the simplicity of it all. The character is drawn out nicely, realistic and yet having that nostalgic feel of a good drawn graphic novel.
You have an eye for detail as I can see on the character's clothing and an eye for simple design.
It's something a lot of people do these days. Make things way too complicated and thus making it hard for the viewer to focus on one thing at the same time.
One thing I don't like about the character is its right eye. It seems out of place and makes the person have a weird look in its face.
Other than that, very nice.
