Description Ahahahahaha, this started out as a warm up. Then it turned into an attempt at practicing male anatomy. Then it turned into Sephiroth. Did I really just spend 6 hours on what was supposed to be a 15 min sketch? Yup.

Aaaaaand I still really, really, really need to work on anatomy. At least my guys actually look somewhat like men now instead of poorly drawn flat chested girls. There is some improvement even if I need much more ^W^ I'm so happy~!

I've been drawing Final Fantasy stuff a lot lately...I don't know why...

Nice rendering, it is a nice warm effect. Totally know what you mean about 'lol this will be a fun practice' turning into 'this is what today is'.

The anatomy is not as far off as you might fear. The arms are actually pretty good, you can see that the muscles are in the right spot. Most depictions of Sephiroth make him a little more muscular, but I've certainly seen more effeminate renders.

There are two things I would point out that might help with you next male render:

Male pecs [well technically female too, its just harder to see] should more obviously flow from the bottom left and right into the shoulder. Part of the reason you get the mild effect of flat chested women is because the pecs you draw behave like really flat breasts.

The second is the abs. You've made them very wide, when in reality the angle of how he is sitting and the way he is sort of leaning forwards means they would be slightly tightened, so they would be a bit smaller and more defined.

Still, all things considered I'd say you are not far off. You officially have the excuse to draw another shirtless character too.

My advice: google 'pectorals'. I just did and there are a lot of body building and health sites with really useful images showing you how they work and where they are. Once you see that you will understand that on this picture it would be easy to work them in.

Keep it up, you're doing well.

I would critique, but I have been told I am a bit too harsh at pointing out flaws. So I'll put my gripes here (bearing in mind I literally suck at art. period.)
I adore the hair, but the parting is slightly off, but I would love to be able to do hair like that!
His chin is a tad too square, and remember he has cats eyes.

Overall I love the image - please don't misunderstand me - I couldn't do anything to this standard given 60 hours.

I love it. Nicely done on the whole

NO THIS IS GOOD! I love the pointing out of flaws, I need it! As long as people are polite and sincere in wanting to help, I don't mind if the critique is harsh. I can see many of the flaws myself but I'm still figuring out how to fix them (I've never had the opportunity to take art classes sooo trial and error is my method right now lol)

(He has cat eyes in the picture, but now I realize it's kind of hard to see XD)

Thank you so much! I love you forever for this      It's so encouraging when someone takes their time to really look at my artwork and critique it. I may try to draw this again once I practice some more~

You're welcome

(P.s My next life challenge is to be a Sephiroth Copy - albeit a female one. To pass the realms of cosplay and to literally be a clone - I know, I'm odd)

May I be so bold as to ask if you would like to watch my page?

(Yup time, much of which I don't have free *cries loudly* it's 3.20am and I'm in the middle of converting the conservatory into a dining room - my neighbours are alcoholics and pass out around 11pm, so no restrictions on noise lol)

Oh I feel for ya, I flunked all my exams at school, but went to college and got straight A levels - which for some reason upset the school...

Aw thank you I am covered in scrapes and bruises, and I am missing a chunk out of my left ear where a piece of mesh thwacked me really hard

PunctualTurtle In reply to SugarPlumPumpkin [2014-10-24 00:02:33 +0000 UTC]

At least you did well in college I'm such a perfectionist, I try as hard as I can to get straight A's. It's been drilled into my head since like 1st grade lol Ironically, however, the biggest source of my education is the research I do outside of school (Some say I read too much XD)

Oh my goodness, I hope you'll heal soon! That's no fun...

I was actually surprised that I did pass with Distinctions and A levels, since the group were all goofballs - good times, good times...
Learning at your own pace with the things you love is the best way.
Life is a lesson x
Haa - youre talking to someone who has nearly 10-000 books...and counting. You can never read too much. A good quote I saw once
"Never trust someone who's tv is bigger than their bookshelf"   (although a Kindle is a good argument but you cant beat a real book)

I'll be fine, I heal quickly

hope you are good?

PunctualTurtle In reply to SugarPlumPumpkin [2014-10-24 01:14:52 +0000 UTC]

I love you already XDDD It's so nice to see someone who also reads with a passion! There are so many people I've met who say they hate reading...How can hate reading is something I'll never ever understand!!
That quote is so perfect. To be honest, one of my favorite quotes about books is: Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore? (I can spend hours in bookstores... I have so many good memories with my mom doing this XD)

(I don't like reading on a Kindle. I've done it, it's just not the same. I can't get into a book as much as when I physically have the book, being able to flip through the pages, begging the sun to stay up a bit longer so I can curl up with the book outside and read...then running inside and turning the light on to continue XD I really only do it when it's significantly cheaper.)

I'm doing alright. I've been struggling with some health issues lately, but this week overall has been pretty good in comparison to the past few sooo life's good XD

I have tried in vain to get my other half to read. Even in the form of FF7 or 8 but he just rolls his eyes and says nope. It is infuriating to say the least.

Ohhh we have three bookstores here and my mom and I always say we are going to "look" and come back with bags full.

Not to mention the Kindle doesn't have that "new book smell"
Ahhhh i love finding a tree and reading in the shade, its just, bliss. Or curled up in my (embarrasing to say) my leopard onesie with a huge mug of hot chocolate in a comfy chair as it is pouring out. My idea of heaven ( ok i Lie, my idea of heaven is locked in the Shinra mansion basement with Sephiroth and Vincent Valentine...).

I hope you feel better soon x

Sounds like my friend. She told me once "If it's longer than 150 pages I'm bored." >.< I JUST DON'T GET IT

My mom and I do that all the time too! I would always say "I'm saving my allowance up for ___" then we go to the store to 'look' aaaand then I'd have to start over saving again XD (No loss though~)

Oh yes, the new book smell! Just lovely~
Awww that's awesome!! I love reading when it's raining or snowing outside. I love being in my room next to the window curled up in a blanket with a book or my sketch pad. It's so nice to read/draw and be able to look up and watch the raindrops or snowflakes fall :3
(LOL I have to be honest, that sounds pretty good XDDD)

Thank you

How can someone be bored of long books?

I cant buy books for a while as I spent £1000 in the past three weeks *eek* but I am reading "Max" by James Patterson - part of a set called Maximum Ride - at the moment when I get time to get a few pages in.

My other half looks at me when i sniff books as if i have lost my mind lol
Reading in bed is a no-no as i just doze off mid point and I read a lot of Horror so bad dreams follow suit.

^>^

She attributes it to her short attention span... I'd agree lol

Ooo I Googled that series, it looks interesting I'm reading some nonfiction right now--Bioelectric properties of the body and some sewing books (I'm learning how to sew~ I have a whole folder of designs I've made and I'm finally going to attempt to make them XD)

Haha! My friends do the same thing.
I can't read horror books before bed either... I save those for when there's lots and lots of sunlight.

I can sew, I just don't

Ohhh I'd love to see the finished products

Have you read any Darren Shan books? I know they're aimed at teens but they're still amazing. I prefer the Demonata series to the Cirque du freak, and I haven't finished the ZomB set yet to comment enough (although I do have an autographed book ^_^)

I haven't read his books. What are they about?
(It's okay if they're teen's books!! I have LOVED Rick Riordan since fifth grade, I still read his work. I have also read The Mortal Instruments, Harry Potter (this was a while ago), Incarceron Series, a bunch of series on mythological creatures like dragons...There's so many xD to be honest, I read more nonfiction/adult books now but I still like teen's books!!)
