Description Thanks again to the stock photography at . (Not only are her rules of usage straightforward, polite, and brief, but her subject matter and poses are often exactly what I was looking for. i.e. Artists don't have to hunt and click around her DA page and then waste more time scrolling through pages and pages of less-than-welcoming usage guidelines. She does it right.)

For media, I started with pencil on Bristol, did an inking step with a 0.2 mm black marker, erased the pencil lines, scanned it in, used high contrast to turn the lineart into a mostly-b&w format, cut-and-pasted previous drawings of mine (and MLP's) in the margins, digitally colored via the ubiquitous paint bucket tool, and finally added color-coded text.

Finally, don't steal this image for use in your own rpg game. Putting somebody else's artwork up as your desktop background and showing it to your friends is respectful. Slapping on a new name and having your gaming friends look at another person's character is not respectful. If you're on DA, you're very likely an artist, which means you're capable of creating your own character honestly while using other artists' artwork as inspiration rather than as copied-and-pasted save-this-image stolen material.

I come back and look at this drawing every now and again; it is my favorite drawing/piece of Stares At Basilisks that you've put out, and I believe it's his facial expression that does it for me.  It's that look on his face I get to see on yours, the one of "I'm not sure what's what right now, but I am quickly assembling that in my mind."  The look on his face, and always on yours, is that of one in thought, putting puzzle pieces together and formulating answers.  It's a hugely attractive look and you wear it constantly.  Apparently, so does Stares At Basilisks.  (I still think his expression is also that of an elf that just found a snoopy frog in his trail rations bag, munching on fry bread and other goodies in there, and the expression that follows when he learns Fire Thunder isn't going to reprimand Maf for snooping.  That frog gets away with EVERYTHING, I tell you!)

I cannot decipher the symbols/petroglyphs on the severed shortspear.  What are those, exactly?  I thought I remember you telling me that Stares At Basilisks, on some of his belongings or others, had a symbol of a roaring fire and a lightning bolt to remind him of his sweetheart, Fire Thunder.  Are those on the shortspear, or do those occur on something else entirely?  Or anywhere?  Did my mind just make that up?  I'm not sure.  I do like that shortspear, though, I'm glad Fire Thunder was able to give that to Stares At Basilisks as a gift.  She loves spoiling two people; her boyfriend and her frog.  We already discussed the latter; she opted out of punishing Maf for snooping in her honey's gear.  What?  He just wanted to snake a few snacks, is that so wrong?  (Yes, but you can't tell Fire Thunder that.  Nor Maf, either.)

I also like how the war paint band on Stares At Basilisks' face only is on one side and goes out into his ear.  That looks so cool to me.  Fire Thunder's is a complete band across her face, from one ear to her other one, and was originally inspired by your design on SAB.  However, I was looking at SAB in that picture of him in a side profile view; I wasn't aware the band only went from his nose to his right ear, and so inspired was I that I drew/colored the same on Fire Thunder, but not knowing it was only a half facial design, I put hers completely across her face, spanning from one ear over to the other.  Truth was, I was pretty much copying your design, I liked it so much.

Great work, as always.  Like I said, this is your best piece involving Stares At Basilisks.

Right, that skull design on the buckskin shirt?  Awesome.

I love the expression on SaB's face, too.  It just looks like an expression he'd wear, as if he's figuring something out and putting puzzle pieces together in his mind.  Maybe he's trying to decipher some asinine thing Fire Thunder just said.  Or he found Maf hanging out in his stuff, where Maf has no business being --  this is his response when Fire Thunder refuses to reprimand Maf for snooping around in SaB's things.

The mask he sports on the back of his leg is pretty darned awesome, too, I might add.  Big fan of the split down the middle with one half a tad darker than the other.  I like the very minute detail, down to the teeth; did you shade THOSE?!  They are quite small, but they appear as if you even bothered to shade them!  Whether you did that or not, it's quite impressive.  That turned out really well, IMO.

Hey, I recognize that spear!  Didn't SaB's girlfriend have that crafted for him?    I like the sheath in his sleeve, too, what a clever way to tote that about!  And handy, too, if you'll excuse that semi-pun.  That'd be pretty convenient to cross draw it, so by its placement, I'm assuming Stares At Basilisks is right handed?

The detail work, going back a tangent, on the gourd, specifically, is wonderful.  Same with the braiding and stitching of various pieces of Stares At Basilisks' clothing and incidentals.  I'm impressed also with the mocs and their stitching; it looks very convincing, and not just that, but plausible in real life --  that's exactly how they'd be stitched up, down to the crease running up the toe and across the top of the foot.  Just...  wow!

You never fail to blow me away with what you come up with, JHB.  You just never do.
