“Yeah, basically in a means to match the themes of my fan series of finding the balance between negative and positive emotions; and having Lance be defeated and "redeemed" in the ending cutscene of the final boss kinda goes against the message. Especially after the confrontation between the two maestros at the end of the novelisation. Plus it would really add some stakes and dark moments to the show like other classic precures. As well as to help put the character development of the girls (and Leo) to the test by having them face their biggest threat yet, their best friend Balan...”

So yeah, in the final arc of Hurray! Maestro Precure, our lovely friend Balan transforms into the new version of the negative Maestro. Basically, now with Lance’s heart filled with positivity, the former villain slowly became more and more positive, but this mean that Balan was destined to become the new Maestro of negativity, since with both Lance and Balan only have one half of a heart piece, they can only feel either positivity or negativity due to balance being needed. So, with Lance becoming more positive, Balan slowly becomes more and more negative, not helped by all these new negative thoughts in his head; such as missing his human friends and never being able to be in a true relationship with Kathryn. This speeding up the process of the transformation so by the time Lance realised what was happening…it was too late…
Now as the new villain, Balan wanting to replace his negative feelings with positivity, Balan starts trying to turn the earth into his own Wonderworld, filling the void of despair in his heart piece. Some of his main plans including making his former friends dreams forcefully come true and even forcing Kathryn into marriage. The only problem is that since Balan’s heart piece is even bigger than Lance’s, it makes Balan more powerful… And even if that wasn’t the biggest problem, would the precures even want to fight one they used to call their friend…?

And yeah, they do end up saving Balan and returning him to normal…but with a major sacrifice…
