This is absolutely great! I just have a question :3
I know you probably use PS, I don't know if it's the same circumstances, but I can't seem to get smooth lines with GIMP. Is it because of the brush I'm using or....

I have a feeling it's got something to do with your settings, but I don't know where, as I've never used GIMP. You should try looking it up on Google. Sorry I couldn't help more. :/

when it came to making the horse look smoother in the beginning did you use a smudge tool or did you just use the blur filter?

Nope, I'm not a fan of smudging, really. I just used the 'reduce noise' filter, like it says above, and a little bit of blur. (:
