So how do dolphins maintain a starfaring civilization, despite their lack of hands with opposable thumbs and legs?ΒThey have technology.Β
Uplifted dolphins are more or less a cyborg race.Β Dolphins are fitted with neural interface implants as soon as they are mature, and wear harnesses to which they link using the implant.Β Harnesses typically come withΒ 2 mechanical manipulator arms. computers, communications gear, sensors, so on.Β Since all the hardwares are controlled through the neural interface, they are like extensions of dolphins' bodies.Β Manupulator arms allow them to do any menial tasks that require hands, when dolphins are in water.Β They are tucked away in the back, when not used to lower hydrodynamic drag.
When dolphins need to go on land, they ride on personal mechs called 'spiders'.Β Again, the mechs are controlled through the neural interface, allowing dolphins to be fully capable on land.Β Arms on the mechs allow them to lift, to transport, and even to fight, all actions necessary to build and maintain a technological civilization.
