Description
This is a piece paying homage to one illustrator of Lewis Carroll's literature, Sir John Tenniel. His interpretations of alice in wonderland & through the looking glass are, by far, my favorites. In my Drawing II class, we were asked to produce a "master copy" which would showcase our ability to vary drawing styles and show proportions using sight-measuring. We were free to choose our master work, so I picked something I love: The Mad Tea Party. My replica is no replica; there are some flaws, of course. However, I am very proud of this, especially because I did not use any gridding...I drew it from about a 5" x 7" photocopy.
MEDIA: PEN & INK.
SIZE: APPROXIMATELY 22" x 18".
TIME: APPROXIMATELY 6 HOURS.
ps - pen & ink is a death wish.

wow, this is really awesome. it makes me want to go to the library and pick up a copy of alice in wonderland. Indian ink can be a pain to work with, my friend does alot of cartoon work with it and whenever it drops he freaks out and I crack up. You did this very well, i'm impressed that you didn't use a grid, i think you need to give your drawing a little more credit, but then again being in art school you prolly have some really tallented hands around you, i know what that's like, it makes anything i draw feel like shit even if its an acomplishment. anyways i like the scene i like the way you did it, it's just plain awesome. well done.

thank you so much. i am really proud of it, but you're right; there are hundreds of kids running circles around me with their drawing abilities. i really appreciate your support on this, especially since i really respect your art. thanks again.

well you definatly should be proud of it. one of my best friends is quite an impressive drawer ([link] ) , and one of those is bad enough, hundreds must be frustrating. but "ya gotta just keep on keeping on" in the words of Joe Dirt.

it was pretty obnoxious. it was with an actual pen & nib (the quill pen type of thing) and a bottle of black India ink. if you look really hard, there are two accidental ink blots. those made me want to kill everyone in my path. however, i managed to cover them up fairly well.
