Description 3D image of a hole in a tree on campus. See stereoscopic tree for viewing instructions.

Sorry to those who have trouble viewing these. I really like making them and I'm backed up so the next couple are going to be stereo.

I kinda wish there was a stereoscopic category somewhere.

There are now several stereoscopy categories. This one is Stereoscopy/free view/ cross eyed. But how would you characterise this one ?

Wow, very good object and just the right amount of depth.

There should definately be a stereoscopic category!

Very nice... I've been using your picture to teach people how to look at cross-eyed 3D pictures. Its simple geometry helps the eye overlap the images, and the sweet texture offer quite a treat after a successful viewing of the picture

Wow! so cool! only...i think it's backwards or something...everything that supposed to be in is out for me...maybe it's just my eyes...

It's not your eyes. There are actually 2 methods used to see stereoscopic images. One is the "parallel" and the other is the "crossed eyes."

You are using the parallel method which is the same technique used to view those magic eye illusions. For you to see the illusion correctly using this method, you will need to use a paint program and transpose the left and right images.

The cross eye method will allow you to see the illusion correctly, but it's a bit tricky. Have your eyes about an arms length away from the screen. Use a pen or pencil and hold it right in front of you, and focus on the tip of the pen/pencil. Move the pencil forward or back very slowly until you are able to notice the 3 images in the background and the center one is aligned. This is tough because you need to stay focused on that pencil point, and the bg will be blurry. Once you notice the bg is aligned behind the pencil, you can let your eye change the focus from the pencil to the bg image. Ideally, the pencil will blur (and not split into 2 images) and the bg will become clear.

If the cross eye method becomes problematic, then just transpose the images and use the parallel method.

Wow, that looks REALLY cool. I tend to see these inside out, so I transposed the images. Once I finally saw the effect, I was blown away. Seeing this one in 2d seems more like an abstract image, but the 3d really brings it to life.

Holy hell. This gives a really nice effect. Not so many cross-eyed-stereoscopy pictures like this one.

yeah, sorry.. I forgot to explain stereoscopic. It's a method of making a 3D image out of two 2D images. You have to cross your eyes so the two images merge in your vision, and the merged image looks 3D.
