Description
umm, can we have an Illustrator tutorial category? This is an in-depth beginner tutorial of the Adobe Illustrator pen tool. All you need to get started and a little more (considering you already have illustrator). I want to do a couple more about predicting where curves will go, and how to CG. Depends on how this goes I guess.
This should all work for several versions, maybe as far back as 7.0... I made it in CS and tested it in 10 so I know those work.

I would like a copy of the above handout to show my student but can't get a copy to print. Do you have an electronic copy I can use with my special education student as I am trying to assist him in learning Illustrator and the Pen tool?

Thank you so much for this - I'm just learning how to use this, and this tutorial has been by far the most useful one I have found on the internet. I feel like I may be able to get the hang of this now ^^
Thanks

This is an awesome tutorial -- thank you for explaining Illustrator pen tool basics. I've had the Illustrator program for months but haven't gotten around to using it. This would really help me out!

i'd like to ask, i have many un-closed paths on my lineart
is there a way to combine them all
into one whole path?
so i can fill my things =3
this is my first time with illustrator and it is very different from photoshop.
so the path things have me confused and how to work the pen tool as well.
any help would be great
thanks =3

I figured it out a while ago, but I forget. I think you have to click the one of the two anchorcs and connect them with another anchor.

THANK-YOU!
I also enjoy checking out fellow artist made tutorials rather than the yucky included ones that are long and most of the unuseful for very basic things....but anyhow this is awesome. I enjoy how you listed the icons of the tools (always helps when things are unclear) and how indepth your explinations (AS WELL AS THE HAND TIP!!!) I just have one question:
I just got Adobe Illustraor with CS2 and was hoping to use it for making clean lineart...however I'm making it from fully painted scanned art; does it matter or make a difference if I use sublayers or new layers? Anyways I'm going to go experiment, so if that question was strange I'm sorry, this is a new medium for me!

this is very similar to the photoshop pen tool, except the bezier curves

Actually they are the same, including the bezier curves, that's just a technical tidbit they don't tell you in the manuals.

I just got AI CS so i'm definitly downloading this.
I agree with the Illustrator tut. category. I mean, i know thats what the misc. cat. is there for but this way if someone is looking for an Illustrator tut they won't have to search the whole Misc category. Maybe there should be an OC tut category also, i've seen many OC tut out there or peapole asking for one, so that would be helpfull, but that's another thing..anyways.. thnx for this.
