(Ah, translation differences. I remember these four as the Four Fiends, and not Emperors, but thatβs just a translational difference. It will mean, however, that for ease in completion of this critique, I will be using the names that Iβm familiar with for ease of completion. Left-to-right: Scarmiglione, Barbariccia, Caznazzo, Rubicante)
I am writing this as a kinda-sorta critique, but I am not a premium-member so I have to use standard comment boxes.
First things first: I wasnβt sure what version of Scarmiglione that you were going for in the artwork, but then I stopped and took a closer look. With the way that you have rendered his body in the beginning stages of decomposition, it provides a good bridge between the moment that you take him down the first time and the moment that you get caught in a back attack by a significantly more powerful, more dead version of him.
The one thing that I did not like about the rendering of Valvacia/Barbariccia is that the gender is fairly ambiguous. In all incarnations, the fiend has been unmistakably female in appearance; in this view, the fiend could be either a very un-curvy female or a young boy. However, the care taken with the rendering of the hair offsets a bit of this. I like the way that the hair is in the state of wild motion, as it conveys the element of wind very, very well.
Cagnazzoβs appearance is very smooth, very slick. I almost could not tell that he is in fact a giant, demonic, blue turtle. But, then again, I couldnβt tell that the first few seconds of the fight, either, so youβve done a good job on this one. I especially like the long, dagger-like teeth in his maw.
Rubicante, to me, is the most impressive of the four. In most images, he is not particularly active, but he is the fiend that you know the least about at first. The shadows add to this air of mystery that he has. In a way, he almost appears benevolentβand heβs certainly one of the less stuck-up of the bunch, going as far as to say that he respects your partyβs strength before healing them and then fighting.
Overall, I give this a 4.5 out of 5. Itβs a great piece of art.
