Description
This is my contest entry for 's “Gojira” contest. First thing I want to say is that I hope nobody gets upset with this picture. I wanted to use a Sperm Whale’s head and tail and a gorilla’s body for my design, and it came out looking similar to another entry. However, I hope that there are enough differences in this entry to separate it from the other one. If not, then I will withdraw from the contest and apologize.Anyway, this is my Gojira. I took the Sperm Whale as my head and tail basis, and used a typical gorilla body. This creature has scars covering his body (particularly his head) similar to how Sperm Whales have them covering their faces, from rivals or their prey. The head also has a gorilla nose and does not have a blowhole, unlike many of the entries I’ve looked at. The main body is covered in gorilla hair as well as the arms and legs. The tail is normal whale skin, and one of the flukes of the whale is partially torn off. He also has a dorsal fin...
Wait... a DORSAL FIN? Yes! Sperm Whales normally do not have dorsal fins, but instead have ridges running down their backs. However, while digging up information on cryptids in my free time, I found out about a creature dubbed the High-Finned Sperm Whale. This was apparently a Sperm Whale with... well, a dorsal fin. So I decided to add that onto the back, making him look larger (and thus more intimidating) while hunched over like so. The fin is not covered in fur.
Speaking of fur, what a pain in the butt fur is to pen... well, for me at least. But the fur is a traditional gorilla color. However, the whale skin is albino in color, and his eyes are a blood red color. Sort of a reference to Moby Dick, but I also believe that the white would look cooler (and more unique) with the blackish color of the gorilla coat. Sadly, I lack the colored pencils that would make it look neat, so he isn’t colored.
This design is meant mainly for fighting on land. Yes, I went the opposite direction of what everyone else seemed to do. Godzilla may have lived in the sea, but he seemed more of a land based creature. Not to mention I think that webbing on the feet would hamper with the gorilla’s ability of grasping things or climbing. Instead, the tail does most of the work when it comes to swimming. I hope he gives off a “badass” personality, as I wanted him to look like he’d pound your face in and not take crap from anyone.
This was very fun to draw, and I hope to participate in other contests people create.

The scars really lend him some character - I kinda view him as Moby Dick in a gorilla costume, which is probably one of the more badass things I've ever seen visualized. Excellent job! Another fine apewhale joins the ever growing mob.

He looks really nice! I like all of the scars from battle he has, it gives him some personality. The fur looks good, and the fin does make him look bigger and more threatning. All in all, a very nice entry!
