Description
This is my entry for 's "Redesign Godzilla" contest. Now before anyone says anything, please check out his journal entry before commenting on the design, as we were asked to be very radical. Now then, I did not have the time to color this guy in, mainly because of my new job and being unable to decide on its coloration for awhile. In the end, he remains black and white, which will probably hurt my chances for the contest, but I'll explain what his colors are.
This "Godzilla" actually is in my kaijuverse. CyClone, the main villainous organization in the series, creates the monster via genetic experiments. By crossing together Spinosaurus and Kaprosuchus DNA, and turning genes on and off, this behemoth was born. Nicknaming the creature "Godzilla" due to the sail on its back resembling the famous king of the monster's dorsal plates, CyClone released Godzilla out into the wild, knowing full well that it would begin to cause chaos. Sure enough, it appeared in the United States, and Aranthos, Tursion, Stonespine, and Ukata were all called into action, eventually defeating the monster after a couple of well coordinated battles.
Power wise, this Godzilla takes a very unique approach to the system; its powers depend on the time of day.
Daylight:
-Coloration changes to a fiery orange.
-Can fire a beam of heat from its mouth.
-Can unleash a surge of heat from its body, mimicking Heisei Godzilla's Nuclear Pulse.
Moonlight:
-Coloration changes to a calm blue.
-Can fire a freezing beam from its mouth.
-Can unleash a surge of cold from its body, mimicking Heisei Godzilla's Nuclear Pulse.
The sail takes in either sunlight or moonlight, causing it to glow red during the day (imagine G2K in the Godzilla games charging his beam), or blue during the night (like a traditional Godzilla). The light emitted glows brighter depending on when the beam from its mouth was last used. The beam's power depends on how bright the light is from the sail; the brighter the sail becomes, the stronger the beam is. Whenever the beam is used, the light dims, and if fired constantly, deals less damage. Shockingly, Godzilla seems intelligent enough to realize this and plan accordingly, often waiting long periods of time before unleashing his beam upon a foe, dealing serious damage.
In addition to those powers, Godzilla has a dangerous claw on his pointer finger, spikes lacing his body, and brute strength to let him throw around any monster in his way. He is also capable of walking on both two and four legs, adapting his stance accordingly (with the two legged stance causing the tail to drag on the ground). And finally, like any Godzilla, he is a very powerful swimmer, using his massive tail to propel him at high speeds.

This is a really, really interesting concept for ol' Goji. Having the color and power of the beam change like that is actually really awesome. I like the overall design, too-being able to switch stances is cool, and he still looks really strong and able to kick ass.
Really good entry.

As much as turning Godzilla into a simple dinosaur takes a lot of the character out of him, I'm glad to see that at least this time the donor species is NOT a T-Rex.
Concept wise this is one of the most diverse of the entries I've seen that still has a lot of elements from the original Godzilla. The alternating flux on the powers due to time of day is an element that would work well on any kaiju and it serves to make Godzilla a rather versatile creature. From the sound of it the creature is a transistive retrosaur and this pleases me because THAT is a mutation.

Yeah, I really disliked turning him into a dinosaur, so I had to make it somewhat unique by using the "bear Spinosaurus" idea as well as throwing in land croc. And yes, he does indeed have a tail dragger stance; I just didn't have time to draw it.

I think Agu's contest has a hidden level of difficulty to it. I mean, how do you make Godzilla....not Godzilla but still Godzilla? The best thing I can think of is that old 'Gojira = Gorilla Whale' idea we all did awhile back.

Thanks! The spine was a pain to make, so I'm glad it came out well.

Now that is an interesting idea, while the body design is a neat mix of baryonyx and dimetrodon, the powers are the icing on the cake! This has to be one of the more out there ideas for this contest.
