Inadequate- “Unable to deal with life or a situation”
The morning sun cast a glare over the fresh snowfall that cloaked the lands like a blanket. Redemption’s tiny band had left the Upper Valley to head west towards the warm beaches at the edge of the Lower Valley. As they had gone to sleep the earth was still green, but North, the wind spirit, had visited them during the night leaving his delicate handiwork for all to see.t

    The first to stir had been Calix, the youngest at only six months, eager to play in his first snow, and loud enough that everyone else had be woken. He was a bundle of energy crunching through the fresh snow. Deedee and her sister, Jewel, soon followed the colt’s example and were laughing as they rolled on the ground creating shapes in the snow.

    Among a thin line of pines, Mint watched the group. An urge to join them rose only to be smothered back down. One hoof went forward then retreated to its matching pair. She remained there locked in a silent battle between mind and body.

    As the sun drew higher in the sky, Redemption, and his lead mare, Phantom, called the band together announcing they would continue on their journey.

    They had just started to leave when Mint noticed a soft tinkling emanating from the pines. Mint turned her head mesmerized by the sound. The pine needles rustled before a blinding light caused Mint to jerk her head away. Small drops of water leaked from the mare’s eyes as she attempted to look back towards the light. The initial shock when away and Mint could make out the small pale body of a foal.

    “Oh my!” Azalea’s motherly instincts killed in and she rushed towards the foal. “Are you alright?”

    Seeing the mare coming his way, the foal, with took a few steps back seeming unsure if Azalea was friend or foe.

    “Careful love.” Redemption’s low voice called after his mare while his ears perked searching for any nearby horses.

    Azalea coaxed the colt to her side, and they took small hesitant steps towards the rest of the band who were looking on in curiosity at the newcomer.

    Watching them, Mint’s vision returned to normal, and her eyes widened as she noticed the marking at his throat. It was similar to hers and a numbness over took her head. Memories crashed through her head like tidal waves against a rocky crag. Locked in her memories, instinct took over and she ran.

    “Mint!”

    “Wait!”

    Voices carried on the wind as Mint pushed her body further trying to outrun the memories overtaking her.

    “Stop! Where are you going?” Redemption caught up to the frightened mare, and wheeled around in front of her.

    Coming to her senses, Mint drove her hindquarters under her skidding to a stop to avoid hitting the gray stallion.

    “What?” she asked still a bit dazed.

    “What got into you?” He walked forwards until the side of a horn on the bridge of his nose connected with mint’s face. “What were you thinking?”

    “I... I… I don’t… don’t know,” she stuttered out allowing Redemption to lead for back to the rest of the band.

    The colt was playing with Calix when Mint and Redemption returned. Mint gained a few stares as she kept a wide berth from the young Bloodline.

    As the day dragged on, the foals started to settle, and began to take a nap while Azalea watched over them.

    “Shh, you’re safe now little one,” Azalea soothed into the colt’s ears.

    Mint’s ears burned in embarrassment and shame. A horse as small as him was no threat to Mint yet her head kept ringing with ‘threat’.

Welp, I botched the ending of that story. Anywho, I wanted to explore Mint's issues while trying for this adorable litle baby.
