Description:
As beautiful as she is deadly, Mei-Li prides herself on her appearance, and is one of the few female members of her clan to admit it. Her oval-shaped face is consummated by a small, pixie-like nose and neatly angled brow; in addition to a set of full, soft pink lips and an alabaster smile. Striking silvery-grey eyes complement these features regardless of their bottomless hue, their resonance seemingly derived from the very essence of her namesake. Consequently, it is no surprise that those who look into these optics often feel lost amidst their depths. Despite her vanity, make-up is something she uses in moderation, typically only lining her eyes with black liner and moderate mascara.
Feather-light, teased ebony waves frame Mei-Li's face, and reach a little beyond the small of her back in terms of length. Flowing through these locks are thin wisps of silver, which, while commonly unnoticed amidst her swarthy mane, tend to capture and reflect light, lending a constant sparkle to the bulk of her hair. In addition, her fringe parts heavily to the right, creating a side-length bang that falls across her brow. Her hair is typically worn up in a neatly-dressed bun, though, when she does choose to wear it down, it is styled with a loosely waved pony tail positioned at the back of her head creating a half-up, half-down sort of style.
In terms of physique, Mei-Li is slender and curvaceous. Standing roughly 5'7" and weighing in at a mediocre 119lb, she boasts an athletic build that affords her both the speed and skill necessary to function as an assassin of the Lin Kuei. Her lean frame pours into a set of neatly manicured curves, with her hips and bust proving ample enough to balance out her smaller waistline and longer torso. Her complexion is also quite fair, the actual shade bordering on blanched vanilla extract. Surprisingly, (given her tendency to engage others on a fairly constant basis,) her skin is fairly smooth, and when compared to her clansman, proves only slightly scathed. Her finger and toenails are usually painted metallic silver.
Primary Costume Concept:
With respect to decorum, Mei-Li's choice of attire is not dissimilar from that of her clansman. From the bottom layer up, she wears a black, halter style leotard with high-cut legs and a streamlined bodice. Her upper arms are dressed with loosely tied black ribboning, and her forearms are adorned with black gloves and metal gauntlets, which sport evenly spaced white ribboning between rows of plating. Plain black boots reach about a quarter of the way up her thighs, and rows of plates cover her heels, shins and knees, while additional white ribboning can be found spaced along the length of her shins and ankles. Like most Lin Kuei warriors, Mei-Li wears a plain veil over her mouth and nose, though it is made of a light, breathable white, silver-rimmed material, unlike the more rigid masks of her brethren. She also tends to wear a plain white gold choker and thin earrings, as well as a white gold diamond encrusted hair clip, which serves to hold her bun in place.
Over top of her leotard, Mei-Li wears a heavily modified, white, sideless tunic, which is made of a somewhat shiny material. While the garment boasts broad shoulders and covers most of her backside, its front is split down the middle in a deep v, which reconvenes somewhere just beneath her navel. The rest of the material appears to be joined much like one would expect a leotard, and covers the garment beneath it quite thoroughly along her groin. In terms of decoration, the tunic is dressed with black detailing along the inner-most edge, and a thin rim of silver . Along her hips, she wears a matching sash, which meets just a few inches beneath her navel and is woven through a golden ring, wrapped along the edges of her leotard, and woven back through. Here, the remainder of the material is left to dangle between her legs, reaching just a little beyond her knees in terms of length. Finally, a diamond buckle is placed over the ring in the interest of decoration.
Alternate Costume Concept:
With respect to alternate decorum, Mei-Li's choice of attire is a little bit of a stretch from that of her peers. From the bottom layer up, she wears a halter style shirt that reaches just below her breasts. Overtop of this, she wears a slightly longer white shirt with a plunging neckline. Her upper arms are adorned with plain white gloves, and she no longer wears any of the ribboning or plating previously donned. Her legs are dressed in tight leather pants, though white, black rimmed boots form a v shape over her knee caps, once again lacking the ribboning and plating found in her usual costume. Around her waist, she wears a sash that is entirely similar to that of her normal costume, though it is no longer centered, and the material hangs along her right side. She retains the same jewellery as before, though her hair is left down in a sort of half-up, half-down style, with her hair clip mounted on the crest of her ponytail. With this costume, she does not wear her veil.
Personality:
Some people are born into success. Some people are forced into it. No matter your avenue, success has a way of defining you. Defined by her impressive dedication and workaholic tendencies, Mei-Li is the type of woman who won't quit until the job is done to her satisfaction. Unsurprisingly, the brazen beauty has a tendency to act in the interest of perfectionism, and has been described as impatient, egoistic and obsessive compulsive. On the reverse, her intelligence, determination and reliability have also been subject to notation.
Mei-Li's temperament is most accurately portrayed as a fluctuating entity, though she is commonly characterized by a disingenuous smile and an air of perpetual disinterest. If these facades should falter, however; she is notably quick to anger, and prefers acrimony to its alternatives. Consequently, she is frequently perceived as pragmatic and finicky, and is quite difficult to persuade or please. Nevertheless, Mei-Li is a fairly passionate and decisive individual, and seems to thrive during stressful and overbearing situations. She is the type to trust in herself and her ideals, and is not one to take criticisms to heart.
Regardless of a penchant for distemper, Mei-Li is consistently loyal to those she happens to care for, going so far as to devalue her own existence in times where such individuals are threatened. She is also someone who show's those she's close to her caring and compassion. She rarely shows signs of fear or trepidation, and meets distressing situations with a sense of indolence. During conflict, Mei-Li trends towards sarcastic and mockingly polite verbatim, and commonly resorts to humorous small talk to mentally disarm her opponents. This often makes it difficult to discern whether or not she is flying by the seat of her pants or truly prepared, and tends to work in her favour. Of course, she's almost always prepared, whether she looks to be or not.

Biography:
Mei-Li was born in a small town in the Hebei province of Northern China. Born the daughter of a human male and an Outworld female, both Mei-Li and her twin sisters would be imbued with strange and unearthly powers. Despite initial normality, their lives would never be as simple as their parents had hoped.
Mei was abducted by the Lin Kuei shortly after her first birthday when the clan had invaded a small subsection of the area. During the attack her father was killed while her mother raced to hide Mo-Li from their attackers. While successful, the invading warriors found her before she could gather Mei-Li from her crib. Despite her pleas, the men continued their assault. While they had initially intended to spare the woman, in a desperate ploy to protect her child, Rui-Li attacked the intruders, boiling one of their men alive with a strangely powerful blast of energy. Unfortunately, she would quickly find herself outnumbered, and the last thing she would live to see would be her daughter's capture. It is uncertain what became of Mo-Li.
The young Mei-Li was unsurprisingly trained as an assassin from the time she an infant, and as such, would come to regard the Lin Kuei as her family. As she grew older, her skills increased quite rapidly, and in her early pre-teens, signs of her odd affinity for light came to be. At first, she would only be able to manipulate her new found powers in moderation, though consistent training would render her powerful in her own respect. She would complete many missions throughout her time within the clan, and she would, unsurprisingly, lose many friends. Around her early twenties, she would come into contact with a woman who looked a great deal like herself, who would engage her in battle, presumably in hopes of gaining access to the Lin Kuei temple.
While Mei-Li dispatched her quickly, the woman had not been saddened by her defeat. She seemed to expect it. This threw Mei-Li off, and while she had originally planned on slaying the girl for her abrupt challenge she resisted, instead questioning the woman's intentions. When the woman failed to provide her with the answer she had requested, Mei-Li's temper rose, and she began to beat the girl until she chose to provide her with an answer. The girl, soon beaten and bloodied, simply laughed even harder, though she would eventually speak. "…I didn't want to believe him. I didn't want to believe my master. He said coming here was a terrible idea, but I guess… I guess I had to meet you."
"What in the world do you mean?" Mei-Li would inquire, ceasing her violence for perhaps a few moments in anticipation of an answer. The woman simply smiled through broken teeth. Frustrated with her unwillingness to cooperate, Mei-Li presented an ultimatum—if she didn't answer, she would die. Much to Mei-Li's chagrin, the woman still would not answer her, and her curiosity would, most unfortunately, prevent her from delivering the finishing blow. "What do you want from the Lin Kuei you stupid girl! And why did you risk your life to meet me!"
Before the woman had a chance to respond, and before Mei-Li had a chance to extinguish her life force, the woman's mentor arrived outside of the palace. Taking Mei-Li by surprise, the sorcerer would utilize his magic to strip her of her consciousness. After ensuring the other woman had been safe, he would then begin tending to her wounds. "Miss Lin Kuei, you are not the nicest of hosts, I see. You think you would receive the last of your kind with more loving arms," the man would begin, dressing the other woman's wounds as Mei-Li lay silent, "…family shouldn't be so unwelcoming."
Mei-Li awoke many hours later within the Lin Kuei temple, thankful that a friend had found and removed her from the scene before the grand master caught wind of her failure. When questioned by the individual who had returned her to her chambers, she could do little more than sigh, "…I must have fallen asleep. Dreams are, as it would appear, just as deadly as the dawn they precede."
Despite her loyalty to the Lin Kuei, Mei-Li has made finding the girl who attacked her all those years ago part of her own agenda. Unfortunately, thus far, she has been without luck, and with the rise of Shao Kahn in Earth Realm, she really needs to get her priorities straight…
