Oddly enough, regardless of her unyielding determination, Rei is rarely serious, (especially in battle.) In fact, she will usually only play the part when she is overcome by intense hatred, anger or sadness, or happens to be faced with a much stronger opponent. To go along with her playful battle demeanor, Hitsurei tends to avoid killing opponents, though she claims to do so because she personally dislikes resorting to unnecessary brutality.

In spite of a friendly, upbeat attitude, Hitsurei, like the rest of her race, is subject to the same vicious Saiyan temperament her people are known for. Consequently, she has been known to anger quickly, and is not above holding grudges or seeking retribution. She is the kind of woman who tends to despise the austere, and is not above shunning, mocking or outright insulting those who accept failure, (or boredom,) as an option. Rei is simply unwilling to accept excuses, and holds others to the very same standard she holds herself to—a standard that is not only high, but in many cases, seemingly insurmountable.

Clinging to her arrogance for vindication, Rei often misses the big picture while focusing on finite details, and in many cases, finds herself appealing to problematic circumstances. She has also been known to be incredibly protective of those she cares for, and is, at the drop of a hat, willing to put her life on the line to protect those key individuals. These views often lead her to ignore obvious risks in the name of heroism, and land her in many a dangerous situation. As such, she’ll often admit, in private conversation, that if she were any other person, she’d be long dead by now.

History:
Born on the planet Nappa, a planet whose namesake was derived from the ancient warrior himself, Hitsurei entered the world as the daughter of two elite class warriors. In spite of the haphazard ranking system of the planet, there were two families harboring the highest designations on the planet—the Yoshiaru family and the Shinjou family. As a member of the Yoshiaru family, this meant that the young Saiyan would be treated not only to the respect and admiration of her compatriots, but would be blessed with a life befitting of princess, at least by racial standards.

From an early age, Hitsurei and Kures, the offspring of the main families, would become great friends. Just like their fathers before them, the pair would inevitably grow inseparable over time, and on many an occasion, their parents would lovingly suggest marriage as a way of uniting the two families into a singular ruling body. Consequently, as best friends, they would grow together in body, mind and soul, and would remain as such for many years to come.

When Hitsurei was fairly young, however; a tragic accident would come to test the bond the young pair of Saiyans had shared. During a routine atmospheric re-entry, the space pods of both of their fathers were incinerated in an all-encompassing inferno. This accident was attributed to something as simple as a faulty connection, which prompted Rei to blame Kures for his negligence. After all, it had been his job to perform the final maintenance checks on all departing space pods. By failing, he alone sealed the fate of warriors they had affectionately referred to as ‘fathers’.

While Hitsurei had originally tried to continue with her life on Nappa, the pressures associated with losing her father, as well as her best friend, left her unable to cope. After taking on several suicide missions, (and returning to tell the tales,) she would leave the planet all together, hoping that she would find retribution amongst the stars. Within a few years, she would find herself earthbound, and in the end, would choose to settle upon its seemingly green pastures.

In a stroke of luck, the lonely Saiyan would come across an infertile older couple just outside West City, and would quickly find herself their new adopted daughter. Consequently, the next few years would shine on the newly dubbed ‘Rei Tareno’. Her ' parents' held significant shares in the original Capsule Corporation, and their wealth gave the young Saiyan a comfortable life. In spite of herself, she would attend and somehow graduate from high school, and would end up taking on a full time position at one of the Capsule Corporation’s research facilities. Somehow still, she would find the time to continue her training, utilizing her position within the conglomerate to develop new weaponry and technologies.

On her eighteenth birthday, however; this couple too would perish at the hands of circumstance, leaving Hitsurei alone once again. It was when she was searching for someone to blame that she truly started to consider the implications of her attempts, and began to feel sorry for the boy she had abandoned back on Nappa.

Thanks to a hefty inheritance, Rei would quit working all together, purchasing a penthouse suite in downtown West City.

• Her favourite food is fried tonkatsu (battered pork cutlets) served on a bed of plainly fried rice.
• Rei does not seem to have the same voracious appetite as the rest of her species, and is capable of fighting at full strength regardless of hunger. This may be an indirect result of her unusually picky eating habits.
• Her given name was derived from a combination of her mother’s name (Reikou), the species’ dependence on the moon (Tsurei), and the colour of her hair, (which most closely resembled fire.) Oddly enough, while ‘Rei’ is used in the names of both Reikou and Hitsurei, they both mean opposing things—Cold light and Moon Fire, respectively.
• Rei still possesses, and frequently upgrades, her original Saiyan Scouter for reasons well beyond the need to sense ki. The lens is a shade of cherry red, and the visuals appear to be golden yellow.

--Inkaten (Flash Point): With Baiki no Tsurugi in place, Rei will cross both blades to form an X-like shape. After fully separating the wakizashi, she can then cross them again rapidly, forcing the arc to release an explosion of ki at the point of impact.

--Kaenaranami (Raging Blaze Wave): With Baiki no Tsurugi in place, Rei will extend both arms by her sides, pointing each blade in an opposing direction. As ki swells across their lengths, she will bring the blades together in a sudden movement, pressing the tips together into a 'clap'. The ki will explode into an enormous blast of red energy, which will race towards her target at great speeds.

--Kiresenkou (Flash Cut): With Baiki no Tsurugi in place, Rei can send multiple arcs of slicing ki towards an opponent simply by slashing the air. If, during the attack, the swords make direct contact, their strength is doubled.

--Akayari (Red Spear) With Baiki no Tsurugi in place, Rei can shorten or lengthen her wakizashi by adding additional ki to their composition. Both blades can reach a maximum of 20 feet in length.

--Sundan Dageki (Laceration Strike): With Baiki no Tsurugi in place, Rei will temporarily merge the hilts of her wakizashi together via ki, creating an effective double sword. Form there, she will spin the central handle around rapidly, a disk-like formation of energy manifesting in its place. Stepping back, she will then seperate the blades again, and lay a series of rapid slices into the actual disk, releasing a wave of narrow, ribbon-like bands of slicing ki towards her enemies. Each beam has the potential to cut or impale an opponent, depending on the angle in which it strikes.

--Teisan (Ceasefire): With Baiki no Tsurugi in place, Rei is able to raise her blades and stop ki blasts in their tracks. This can be done with one blade or two, depending on the power level of her opponent. Unlike the act of simply pushing ki back at one's opponent, Teisan allows her to hold the energy in place for a longer period of time, and usually serves to give her time to utilize her Kou Shiyoku, Nibai Kashoku combination.

Nibai Kashoku (Double [bright] light): By using Kou Shiyoku, Rei is able to absorb an incoming ki attack and fire one of her own whilst returning it, thus creating a potent double blast.

Kakusandan (Scatter Shot) The ability to fire two blasts, then merge them together and split them so you have multiple Ki bolts raining down on your opponents.

Bakurikimaha (Shockwave): This technique is performed by raising two fingers, creating an explosion which covers a wide area.

Kienzan (Destructo Disk): This attack is created by forming a disc of energy with one hand. It can be a very strong attack because it can cut through almost anything.

From this point, it can be fired forward like a beam (similar to the Kamehameha), or thrown like a ball, (depending on personal preference,) exploding on impact.

A much stronger variation of Rei’s signature attack. To perform the attack, Rei begins by interlocking her fingers, palms facing the chest. The thumbs are slowly pressed together, creating a small shell shape that faces upwards. Ki gathers in this space, and when enough is gathered, the hands are flipped over and rapidly pulled apart; the condensed ball instantly expanding to fit half the spread range of her hands, the remaining space filling with a more translucent veil of energy. From this point, she will begin to close her hands, reshaping the attack into an even more condensed swell of ki, eventually ending the movement in a silent clap. The energy, from this point, will envelop her closed hands, and at the utterance of 'dan', the attack can be fired. The beam itself, when fired, appears much like a shooting star, as the front-end of the attack is composed of a large, ball-like formation, while the remaining trail remains connected to her extended hands. Like her regular Eikoudan attack, the blast explodes on impact.
