Description
Just been sorting out my gallery and I suppose I was struck by this piece right at the beginning. It just makes you realise, sometimes your best work doesn't come when you know all the tricks of the trade, sometimes it's just small moments of inspiration that catch you off guard, this is one of those moments.Related content

Oh no way! I used to go to the same gym as that guy (rushcliffe). Anyway, take it easy! (cool pic)

The person is still but there is a sense of impending motion. Can't see how high he is but the rooftops and the way he's looking down are good clues. Good timing on the shot.

Thanks, it's good to know that people are thinking a bit deeper into my work than just thinking it's a pretty picture!

This is a lovely, lovely, lovely picture!
It's so expressive and meaningful and can be interpreted in so many ways!
The face could be just a bit lighter but it's truely amazing!
Wonderful job!

Haha, the face could be lighter, but the photo is from a series where the identity of the model was hidden in general! I would have made the face lighter otherwise, you're not the only one to notice!

There is one thing that I really really like about that picture, but I'll say a few things first.
Its a good pose, also I'll say it has a touch of bravery sence to it, as from a viewers perspective we can't see how high this is off the ground.
Lighting is great, this is in an industrial setting and its black and white I like that.
Now what I really like is: the Industrial background, with a runner in the forground, I think they contrast...the industry..shuns the individual, more or less not so healthy people would work in that factory (well not sure about now, but in the past this would be true) and the runner is fit and running is an individual sport.
The only negative thing I have to say about this is, its too long, its kinda panoramic and I don't think that fits this picture.

The panoramic side is intentional, he's a runner, so he's running a long distance right? Kind of wanted to represent that distance somehow.

Ah ok, I understand why, ok it does merit panoramic then.

Very nice piece - I like the use of black and white. which is always good.
Good idea behind the photo also, which is what I like to see. =]

I've just been out running, and whenever I sit like that it's because I'm exhausted, lol. No, just kidding. (well, the runningpart WAS true. ) But the shot IS great, really. B&W photo is my favourite, to me it's much more artistic. That wite thing on his arm (dunno the english word.. sweatband?
) is the needed contrast.

Thanks! What do they call sweatbands in America then? I would say B&W is my favourite style of photography but I'd say it definitely works in this photo, I always think black and white works best in urban areas, otherwise the photo becomes a bit busy. But yeah, thanks, I love it when someone gives me a good bit of critique!

(And I wouldn't know what they call'em in America, cause I'm Swedish, heh... ) But at least I was right

Cool. Ready for the jump.
Nice piece. I like it black and white.
Seems a bit worried and out of breath.

Normally I don't like it when the subject is dead in the center of a photo, but I really like this one.
The buildings in the background balance the shot out and give it more depth, I love it.
You can really feel the emotions that the subject is feeling; the anxiety, adrenaline and what not.
Very interesting, kudos.

Thanks, I kinda felt that the model should be in the middle of the photo otherwise it might look a bit strange.

nice focus! it seems like he's hesitating whether to go or not.
just for curiosity sake, how high is the building he's standing on from the ground he's gonna jump to?

oh, and what the person in the comment below mine said about seeing more the of the subjects expression....i dont so much agree with that...the fact that his face is darkened makes you focus more on the pose and feeling of the photo in general, instead of the person himself...

I like the pose and feeling that something is about to happen. It would probably make a better composition if the person was a little more towards the right. That would add emphasis to the void he's supposedly going to jump in.
Another item of critique i have is the fact that the face of the person is underexposed. I know it's hard in this scene, 'cause he wears a hat and faces away from the sky, but an increase of a stop or two would have probably helped quite a bit... Seeing more of his expression would make the portrait stronge imo.

I see what you're saying but I tried to underexpose the face a bit because this is part of a series and you'll see that in most of the other photos, his face, his identity, is hidden.
