This was a prize in the Benders Vs Bronies competition held on reddit. The winner wanted a line art painting.Gradients are difficult.

The piece is a stencil painting made from a vector from the show. It is acrylic spray paint on 12x12 canvas.
All told, it took about 2 or 3 hours to make.
The photo isn't the best quality because I took it at night with a crappy camera so I could show the person who commissioned the piece the final result. I post my work to DA so that other people can enjoy the work that I do.
I understand that some people don't like MLP, and that is totally fine. I am also more than open to critique of my work. Complaining that a piece of art has a subject matter which you don't like is very childish. I am not making this for anyone but the commissioner and for myself as a project to spend an afternoon relaxing.
Before 10/8, I had heard the term Daily Deviation just once or twice. I had no idea how they were picked or anything. I am glad that I was picked because more people can see my art, which is always cool to me. I am disappointed that so many people are dropping negative comments here because it is not up to some standard they expect in a daily or because of the content.
I do want to thank everyone who has taken the time to look through my gallery and favorite some of my work. Painting is just a hobby for me that I got swept up in. Seeing other people like my work is always cool.

I have to ask, were the specks in her mane painted on separately, or were they also sprayed?
Very lovely stencil work here. I've never really been a fan of doing stencils, so I don't think I could have gotten lines anywhere near this smooth without practice, haha.
I wish the gradient were a tad smoother, but I can't really complain, given the medium.

I'm not a huge fan of MLP, but I'm amazed you got such crisp and clean lines with spray paint! And I like the gradient, eek. Whenever I use spray paint it always comes out so blotchy XD
All that matters is that the commissioner is pleased with the final result, right?

While I am not a huge pony fan, I think this is a lovely piece of fan art. I think it is wonderful that you gave proper credit where it was due; not many DA users do that. I think the quality of your work is very good. I know its not easy to get such a clean painting, even with good stencils. Kudos to you!
And for everyone who is so incredibly offended by ponies, really? Watch the newest deviation pages for a bit and see if you can honestly say that My Little Pony is much more offensive than the random "artistic" nudity and crude drawings put up as "sexy" fan art.
Be a decent human being and have some respect. This hatred is unnecessary.

Congratulations on the Daily Deviation! C: Although I'm not an MLP fan myself, I can admire how clean this stencil work is.
My only question, though, to be honest, would be about the category this was put in -- from what I've read on this site, isn't anything fanart related typically supposed to be categorized as such?

Some pieces are a bit weird - they don't really have a place under any of the Fan Art subcategories, can go in multiple categories, or they just can't go under Fan Art because of file type.
A good examples are Flash files. Flashs are automatically forced into the the Flash category, so they can't really be separated into things like Fan Art.

I mean, the way you mastered the gradient is simply amazing! and as I commented before, I wasn't bashing ponies; I'm just a bit aggrivated that they keep flooding the home page >.> But over all this is pretty awesome.
Did you use a metallic paint for the hair uh.. blue thing..? Haha I'm not too familiar with ponies so... I guess in pony terms that's the mane?

It is just a glossier paint than the rest which is all matte finished. The light is reflecting off the texture of the canvas to give it that shine.

Pyrobob can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe none of the paint used for this was metallic. Different spray paints are more or less glossy, and they can photograph with a reflective sheen under certain light conditions. Example: [link]

Ah ok, I just thought that the mane thing was. I've used acrylics that had a subtle metallic hint to them so I was just wondering.
Those paints are such fun to use though >.> My still life canvases get bombarded with metallic colors >.>

As someone who makes vectors, It's pretty cool to see one get transferred to such a different like this. I used a stencil to spray-paint a vector once, and it was kind of a mess. Yours has really clean lines, and looks pretty cool.

Your responses to some of the replies here is pretty awesome. I'm always fascinated by the reactions from people who disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature, and how quickly they are willing to rant to the artist about it as opposed to the CV. Anyway, kudos for taking the mature high road!

this makes me want to try the stencil method. my friend uses that technique with spray paint too(here's one of hers: [link] ) and it looks really fun.

Okay i'm officially loosing hope in this site. Its like YT and 4chan all over again, brony love and brony hate, only to the extent that it get out of control. I mean come on, isn't DD like random as f***? Why the hate is directed here is beyond even me, and hating on the subject just shows you care, and saying "i don't" then why are you commenting here instead of 4chan/tumblr/YT or some other place where people share your views that doesn't screw over the artist?
