Thank you for sharing this! I recently started to try my hand at four-panel gags… and creating interesting compositions in four same-sized, same-shaped panels is quite a challenge, so I'll try to keep these pointers in mind :3

What brand of comic paper is that? if you don't mind me asking lol. I've been searching for a Canadian site that sells it for ages now><

lol no prob! the brand in the pic is Blue Line pro, but they NEVER have A4/B4 in stock. now i use Deleter manga paper, it's way cheaper too. AND they sell tones!
[link] i get the first one, A4, outlined, 135lb. hope that helps!

Ahh it must be an in-store sold item only :3 There's no curry's by me so I order from their site lol. I used deleter previously its nice paper but order from the states can get costly:3 Thank you for the site though, it's cheaper than the one I currently use You helped a lot
And thank you for the devwatch

how do you know where to cut in the computer? When you scan, the blue lines disappear, right? Then how do you know where to crop the picture?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
pyrogina In reply to AngelERenoir [2010-04-29 18:29:26 +0000 UTC]
when i scan the pic (in full photo color) i crop the pic to either the first bleed/blue line, or to the first instance of a black line (depending on how sloppy i drew it). after the image is cropped, i isolate the Blue channel and make the pic greyscale. i'm thinking it's time to do a more thorough tutorial, because this one is pretty old...

This helped me out a ton!
btw what is the scale on your manga paper?
Because I went to the art store in my city, and
they had a bunch of different sizes, and I dont
know which one to buy!

pyrogina In reply to SunnyRainbowMango [2009-06-21 01:12:28 +0000 UTC]
i use A10, wich is about 8x10.5 or something like that just slightly smaller than printer paper.

... Now if I could just get over fear of inking (I get nervous when inking traditionally 'cause of shaky hands lol XD)

then you should stick to the ball point pen, you need to draw rough and worry about details later, honestly i like my rough stuff, it's more fun! to draw something in this manga form requires like hours! o_@

That's our keyboard right there!!! I bet it's got these buttons: Internet, E-mail, Custom, Sleep, Power, Media, Previous, Next, Play/Pause!!!! XDDDDD
Okay, for some serious comment...
That was inspiring... I love seeing how one artist progresses in his/her own art, and I really have troubles with doing panels on my mangas, and I often end up putting too many panels. Thanks for the tips!
*Will but a right triangle because of this*

Yay, I feel like actually getting round to starting my own webcomic (rather than occasional planning).
Q. Do you write the speech in photoshop?
Fav'd for future reference, thanks!

Very good tut. I haven't seen many artists show the rough and finished work together. Well done. Is the manga paper thick and smooth? Does the ink bleed less? This tut really helps.

pyrogina In reply to henrideacon [2008-03-22 15:38:48 +0000 UTC]
yes, manga paper is very smooth, but not terribly thick.
i have a lot of different paper for different things. i use normal (20lb) printer paper for doodling, i use the manga paper (about 50lb) for manga, then i have thick cardstock (120lb) for my marker pics. i even have large peices of illutration board for extra special pics.
i seldom have bleedy ink, the staedtler pens are very very good, i've gone through several brands and these break the least (and last the longest) the cardstock sometimes gives me trouble because the paper is textured, and sometimes it causes the nib to crack... then i cry... (because they are expensive...)
