Question Question , must we change the bitmap back into Grey tone?
or we dont need to that?

Depends on your line art I think! If your line art is also bitmap, then you don't need to change it back.
My lines frequently are pencil, so I stick with grayscale.

8< Sorry, I'm not sure how to do dot tones in Sai. You might try to download a copy of gimp or deleter comicworks if you can't get photoshop.

* 3 * Oh this was really helpful~! It may be that I am stupid, but I get a little confused around the bitmap part. I have all my greyscales in separate layers, and when I copy them and paste into a new file like you said and convert to bit map...I'm not really sure what to do? If I paste it back into the layer it has white and it covers everything up.
I think I'm misunderstanding or doing something wrong...
Also...is there a way that I can get smaller looking dots? Mine look bigger than yours for some reason. D':

This may be a pretty stupid question, BUT WHATEVA! Do your scans come in totally perfect to tone or do you have to draw over it with a tablet (ect) and then tone?
Loved the tutorial, it really helped me out!

blix-it In reply to RasberrySnowcake314 [2011-05-29 03:00:32 +0000 UTC]
No, not usually. I have to edit my scans. XD
There are two main ways to get lineart to be tone ready.
If you ink (as in your lineart is only black and white), then use your scanner's b/w bitmap option, scanning at a minimum of 600dpi. That will produce pretty nice, crisp lineart for toning.
But I don't usually ink (the toned image in the tutorial is not drawn by me). So I scan my pencil art and in photoshop, I go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and change the far left and far right arrows in the level chart until I get a result with darker darks and lighter lights.

Both pretty much worked (although there are still those little black dots from the scan, but I can make those disappear on my own) ^^ Thanks so much!

I hope so too! I'm wanting to make a one-page doujinshi for ~Clorisita and I have Photoshop and all, but I didn't know how to tone it or anything. Do you know if I can download tone patterns too? I know you can in Manga Studio, but I can't stand Manga Studio.
Or at least Debut 3...

blix-it In reply to SailorRocket [2009-04-19 18:17:08 +0000 UTC]
I dunno. There's prolly loads of them on deviantart! XD
photoshop will do for dot patters
for natural textures I go to cgtextures.com
If there's a certain tone you have in mind though, I could maybe send you something. 8D Since I have the plugins and programs I mentioned in the tutorial here on my computer.

But I'll try my hardest to do everything on my own.
