Description July '09 edit:

If you like this tutorial; please, feel free to check out my manga:

- The Enemy (Submitted June '06 to January '07)
- Angel Fallen (Cont'd July '08 to December '08)
- Never-Ending Encore (Submitted May '09 to present)

I wrote this tutorial a few years back and made an edit to this comment since it's still getting so many hits. This was requested by one or two people, so yeah, this is a tutorial on how to CG your manga for anyone who wants to know how I did my manga.

I would direct this to beginners since I had only submitted about 2 or 3 pages at the time of making this tutorial and I honestly think I no longer agree with some of the advice I gave. I just haven't read through it again to check. So sorry if it's not completely up to date.

I used the Opacity a bit differently, lowered it cuz of my tone (the dots too large) but at least now I have this pattern and can shade my manga pages~

I can't get the Lineart to separate!

I only have one layer at the moment , that is the background layer

When i select channels and try to delete the white a box appears.

It is a "Fill" box , it asks me to choose contents and blending?

I don't have a clue!

FIREBIRDC9 [2013-01-12 00:27:53 +0000 UTC]

when i drew mine the paper i used was crap , I have scanned it but i am having difficulty separiting the lineart from the BG

I think its because the paper is more of a pale grey than white

Any tips?

Thank you so much for this tutorial, all my art was looking pixelated and/or messy because I've just making digital art and didn't know which tools to use when or where. This will really help me in the future, so glad I found your tutorial. I really can't thank you enough 8D

Delete the white areas. Can't remember, but I think it's explained somewhere in the tutorial.

Nice! What version of Photoshop were you using in this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheEclipse In reply to Caesar99 [2010-07-17 00:25:45 +0000 UTC]

I think I was still using PhotoShop 6.0 for this. All those methods should still work in CS5 but there are better ways now.

Thank you for the tutorial its been really helpful! The only thing I don't undersand is the step where you click on the broken circle thing and it deletes all the white parts. What's it called? I can't seem to find it on GIMP and its driving me insane lol XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheEclipse In reply to AsianPowerGirl [2010-04-08 08:23:32 +0000 UTC]

It's a selection tool in the channels tab for Photoshop. Don't know if it works for GIMP.

PS: what would you recomend to use; a pen or a pencil, I'm using a pencil cause my pens have this typical fat point. But what'd you recomend?

TheEclipse In reply to rein-chanXD [2010-01-10 00:23:33 +0000 UTC]

Personally, pen. But that's just because my pencilling is way too sketchy.

when paneling try not to use so many small panels and so much dynaicity, i mean that is nice but use it only to emphasize certain actions.
Other than that small bullshit criticism, I really like it, i mean really it can help me with my touch ups in photoshop.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheEclipse In reply to AkiraPilot [2009-07-17 07:44:34 +0000 UTC]

Was that little bit of critique at the start directed at me, or did you mean that you think I should've put that advise in my tutorial?
