Description
After finding my Stargate DVD collections, I got on a bit of a Stargate kick, and wanted to make this.
A lot of details are missing, mostly on the locks, mostly because I've had a really hard time finding detailed images to use for reference.
The program I use also absolutely wasn't made for something like this with so many details, so it takes quite a while to load and render, making guesswork on the details very tedious as I try out different methods.
So here's my 85% complete Stargate, 100% done.

The Stargates are transportation devices spread throughout several galaxies as a network (This one in particular is a Milky Way model). They use local constellations as coordinate points, allowing one to connect to another by a 7 symbol "Address", 2 each for the X, Y, and Z axis, and the final as the point of origin.
Provided they're sufficiently powered, the Stargates then create an artificial stable wormhole between the two gates, allowing near-instantaneous travel between distant points.

They were first created by a humanoid species in a distant, unnamed galaxy several million years ago. They fled to the Milky Way and (relatively) nearby Pegasus galaxies following a deep philosophical schism in their society, and in turn began seeding Stargates and Human life. This race, known as the "Alterrans", "Ancients", or "Lanteans" then disappeared or died due to a combination of war with an alien species in the Pegasus galaxy, an engineered plague set upon them by those that cast them out of their home galaxy, and evolution to a point where they could cast aside their physical bodies and live as energy.

Stargates are capable of establishing connections across even greater distances, like between galaxies, however few Stargates are capable, and it also takes far, far more power than usual, and an additional eighth symbol as an "area code".
One Stargate in the Milky Way Galaxy is even designed to accept a ninth symbol, and a ludicrous amount of power in order to access a long-abandoned, extraordinarily distant
ship, made for a "Project Destiny". The Destiny ship is accompanied by several small automated mining/refining/production ships capable of producing their own Stargates and seeding them along Destiny's path into deep space. The Destiny ship has been continuing its course at FTL into deep space for at the very least 50 million years. The purpose of the Destiny project is to attempt to map out as much of the cosmic background radiation as possible, after some believe they discovered evidence of a signal embedded within it.

And I think that's the basic lore of all of Stargate, or at least the gate builders.
