Description
Developed as a joint project between the 3 remaining races of the alliance of 4 great races this was an attempt to continue the legacy of the Ancients greatest achievement, namely the stargate network. The project was codenamed "Bifrost" by the Asgard and was developed in a second great meeting place, the location of which kept guarded until the Tau'ri could be officially welcomed into the alliance, though it was still buried in amongst many files in the Asgard core, which might take a long time for the Tau'ri to dig through.

The remaining races wanted to be able to take part in the Ancients Destiny project to discover the origins of the universe, but without access to Atlantis and the ancient database they didn't know the one 9 chevron address, so instead they focussed on a project to build a hyper efficient gate that could dial any other gate network in the universe using 8 chevron addresses but without the excessive power requirements. This could then be used to set up small bases throughout the universe each with their own Bifrost/Rainbow gate. They hoped to, but never found the starship Destiny itself with this project, but they did leave a positive impact on the places they visited, and made contact with a number of other weird and wonderful species.

To lower the power requirements the gate has a neutronium stabilised Naquadria core, with the remainder comprised of normal Naquadah, enhancing the capacitance of the gate to be able to maintain an 8 chevron address for 18 minutes (compared to the conventional 38). Then there is an advanced dual power core in the DHD designed to spike the gate with just the right amount of power for initial connection, bridging the power gap to the equivalent of a few Naquadah generators.

Trivia:
Due to the extra capacitance if a normal 7 chevron address is dialled, the gate can absorb the unstable vortex energy (the "kawoosh") safely and it just calmly opens without it.
