Description
Renee was rolling a dead battery around on the table, finally letting on about how depressed she was. She wasn’t even hungry, just comfort eating. “Are you okay?” Nos looked at her. “You seem a little upset over something.”
“No, I’m fine.” She promised, smiling faintly.
“Madam Asther!” A grub, for the second time that day, ran up to her.
“What do you want NOW?” Renee looked down at him, fangs glinting. She was irritated at being interrupted. The new energy vampire was trying to have a steady conversation with Nos. He was still saving Zurg for later and was slowly taking out her battalion of vampire hornets.
“A Star Cruiser arrived just a few minutes later and has landed. Also,” the insectoid alien cowered. “The warbot XL has gotten onto the planet as well.”
“Let them in.” Renee had been depressed even with Nos here. She had been missing something- friends.
“What are you doing?” The villain demanded at her. “Shoot them down!”
“I…” Renee started before feeling a well of anger open up. “Can I not see my own father?” She snapped before putting a paw over her mouth. “I mean, my real father.”
“And whoever said Alan was with them?” He crossed his arms. While weak, the rangers were still a threat to their ruling of the galaxy.
“My dad wouldn’t leave me behind.” Renee rolled a dead battery between her fingers dejectedly.
“Is something… bothering you?” He forced himself to ask.
“No, no I’m fine.” She sighed. “Here,” she suddenly had an idea. Getting up, the younger energy vampire shoved her master into the hall and shut the door. “When they come in I’ll let you out, all the revenge on Lightyear, Zurg, and Snack Chips that you want in one day.” She was perfectly happy to hand over her father’s oldest friend. After all, he had probably been the one to vote on her staying here.

Alan was out of the ship before anyone could stop him. Buzz, Mira, Booster, and XR followed him wearily as he ran up to the door. Before he could kick it down Renee swung open the door and wrapped her arms around him in a hug. “Dad! Daddy, take me home.” She begged. There was nothing but the truth in her love- she wanted nothing more than to be at home.
The Zephyrite was almost shocked at his daughter’s appearance. She had seemingly aged a lot more than a few months and it was unnerving how different she looked, how much she had changed in the last few months. He rubbed her soft hair, smiling and laughing. “Kitten!” Alan’s eyes brimmed with tears of joy. “I’m so glad you’re safe, I missed you so much!”
“We all did!” Booster fended for himself. He wasn’t about to tell Renee how happy Buzz had been to be rid of her.
“Yay.” XR’s eyes narrowed unhappily. “Somebody tell me again why we’re rescuing an energy vampire who could kill us in our sleep?” Renee blinked and glared at him, eyes glowing. He flinched when she bared her fangs.
Buzz kept his arms crossed, impatient and unimpressed. “Where’s Zurg?” He wasn’t about to believe that she had killed the evil emperor.
“I’ve conquered the planet, Mr. Hero.” Renee stuck out her tongue angrily. “He’s locked up in his room, convinced that he’s my grandpa.”
Alan looked at her in surprise. “What about a grandpa?” Renee looked like she didn’t want to talk about it and he respected that for now. He shook his head. “Never mind. Are you ready to go?”
The new energy vampire paused. She remembered locking her dark master in the hall. She would have to let him out. He wouldn’t let her go without the revenge now. He demanded it. “Uh, not yet.” Alan nodded, expecting her to collect her things. She ran into the castle again, slamming the door. She opened the door and glowered at Nos almost regretfully, but decided it was worth being safe after it was over. “If you’re going to do something, do it now. If not I’m going home.” She hoped for all he was worth that they would not lose to Lightyear.
“Excellent, pet,” He rubbed her hair back tenderly for a second before shooting through the door. He snatched XR as Renee ran outside to watch.
“Renee!” Alan cried when she came out. “How could you?” He had never thought of his daughter as someone who would sell out her friends, even XR. His voice was filled with accusing, sad disapproval. Booster went in for a flying tackle at Nos.
“I…I… He showed up to save me!” Renee pointed at the other energy vampire, who was fighting with the rangers. “Then you guys came, and…and…” She trailed off again. The girl grabbed her ears with her claws, caught between good and evil.
“Little help here, guys!” XR was crushed against the wall between Nos-4-a2 and Booster. Mira shot Nos, sending them flying. XR hit the floor and made a beeline for the ship, looking for safety.
“Renee!” XL was just arriving. He took Renee up instantly, falling into a protective tuck-and-roll hug. The bot didn’t even take notice to the battle going on around them. Vampire hornets by the hundreds had caught Mira and Booster, taking them out of the fight.
Renee had to control herself and not yell at XL for coming at the worst time possible. She did return the hug, though. He was a comfort. “Buddy!” She cried happily and nuzzled his helmet. The girl snapped out of her joyful cloud instantly. “Get off me!”
“XL get away from her, she’s dangerous!” Buzz commanded the bot. He was caught off guard and the energy vampire knocked him to the ground. He began to drain the ranger’s suit. After a second he paused and abandoned Lightyear to snatch Alan off the ground.
“We finally meet face to face, Renee’s other father.” Nos-4-a2 hissed into his face. He had the researcher by the back of his collar, claws hooked into the breastplate.
“Other father?!” The Zephyrite kicked, confused and on the verge of panic.
“You may have given her life, but I’ve given her a new transformation.” Nos chuckled evilly.
Renee had had enough. She was perfectly happy with him beating up Lightyear and his team, but no one, not even her dark master, threatened her real dad. “Put him down!” She screamed.
Everyone, in exception of a distracted Mira and Booster, glanced in her direction. The superior energy vampire smirked, still holding the struggling Alan by his suit. “Very well, little one.”
He dropped her dad. Renee watched, eyes frozen open in terror, as her father plummeted twenty feet to the concrete. She winced within her shock when he hit with an audible thud. The girl broke from her stupor and dashed to his side.
Renee kneeled by her father and helped him sit up. He gasped, already knowing that some of his ribs were broken. Thank God he hadn’t broken his back. “Dad! Dad are you alright?” She desperately wanted for him to get up and say that he was okay.
“I’m…fine.” He coughed into his glove. Upon drawing it away, they both saw a fine spray of blood on his palm. A few spots of it materialized on his lip and his breath was laced with a fine coppery spray. “I hope.”
“XL, help me get him to the medical ward!” Renee called. Nos had busied himself with getting past Buzz and to XR.
“Right-o!” The huge bot lifted Alan carefully. He was, unbelievably, still acting affectionately towards her. That was because he knew she couldn’t help the mind control but was defying it as best she could.
They went inside and headed towards the medical ward as quickly as possible. Alan groaned with each of XL’s thunderous steps. The energy vampire glanced at her father worriedly. “You guys are going to be okay, I swear.”
“So you saved us.” Her friend scowled. “What about the team? It’s not like I could stay with you.” He shivered at the thought of spending any more time with Nos-4-a2. “Star Command is all I have, other than you.” He really, really wanted to be with her. That dream would be crushed if Nos took her.
“When has Lightyear ever lost to a baddy?” She tried to laugh it off nervously. As much as she would like to see Buzz beaten in some painful way she wanted to reassure her friend.
XL glared at her a little more deeply. “You’re defending him. After all he’s done you’re defending him STILL?” He knew she was under his control, but also knew she was stronger than that.
Renee pulled at her ears with her claws again, eye shut and grinding her fangs. “Do you know what it’s like to have him in your head, telling you what to do twenty four-seven?” She moaned.
XL softened a little and looked down sadly. “At least you’ll still have a parent after this.” He sat Alan down in the medical ward and the grubs and brain pods immediately turned her attention to him.
Renee realized what the aftermath would be if master won. It could very well be a repeat of the whole ‘wirewolf revenge’ thing, but with no opposition. Ty, her mother, and countless other innocent people in the galaxy would be killed. She felt unbelievably selfish all of the sudden. “I…I can’t do anything to stop him!” She whined.
“Fight him! You know all of his weaknesses!” XL waved his arms crazily. He stopped, taking her by the shoulders. The hand that doubled as a canon just kind of rested like a heavy but comforting weight on her shoulder. He hoped she wouldn’t notice that he had just planted a tracer in her fur. “If XR could resist him, you can to.”
Renee’s face had hardened, turning solemn. She looked at her unconscious father. She didn’t want to fight Nos. He was even, she had taken notice, starting to like the idea of having her as a daughter. She also wanted to protect the people she loved. Oh but she did love him. “I’ll see what I can do.” She took a few steps back before running down the hall.
