Description Here is a both a portrait and advert for a pharmaceutical company back in 1974. I was a very young photographer, on my second big assignment.

I was given the assignment to create a image that would communicate time frame between generations and progress of technology and medicine during the most important century of technology advancement. So I had a friend who wanted a portrait with his youngest son.

A single father of three. SO the N2S-1 Stearman (1941) in the back ground is my fathers. I built the F4 Mc Donald - Douglas "Phantom" fighter. When this legend of aviation was "new" and the state of the art of the USAF. I gave the model to his son. The client loved the photo. Shot on a 4x5 view camera. I got what was the amazing price of $8,000 US Dollars !

So I recently rescanned this 4x5 negative.

The reason the BW looks good is that it was shot on 4x5 BW film. Thanks for you positive comments. Best Regards.

Great photo, and the amazing story behind it ! Congratulations.

This reminds me another photo about a Canadian fighter called the Avro Arrow.
One photographer made a photo of a kid looking at it and called it "The future looking at the future".

Yes , I think I know of that Photo...a wonderful example of a message speaking to higher reality. For me Concorde represented that same symbolism of future. Now these is a new second generation type of Concorde under develop, it will come for the Airbus & EADS. Hyper sonic airliner that is actually a sub orbital. Here is the link.... [link]

Thanks for the positive vibes.... Best Regards

Wow this is a amazing picture!

And wow! $8,000 is a ton of money back in those days.

It's great to see old negatives turned digital, after seeing this I'm tempted to get the device needed for it. Only thing is I have no idea what to get, I'll have to do some reasearch. XD

Not really any of the modern Epson scanners has the file holders for 4x5 and also a 8x10 film guide. That's not actually not a lot of money when you know that many photographers in LA , NY or Paris were getting day rates over 20K per day for most advert work. And that did not count the shooting budget for locations and staff. Best Regards.

The deepness of your depth of field is really impressive. It's a great shot too.

That is because this was shot on 4x5 view camera. The focal plane is running on a angle across the pavement so the focal zone is leaning towards the ground starting with the head of the son to the dad. That why advertising customers pay the big bucks. Thanks for noticing. Best Regards
