Description After seeing a couple of Animal manipulations and reading this tutorial [link] by `mirrorkills , I really wanted to make my own hybrid. I chose the lion and the zebra because this makes a great title.
With Gimp, I had to use completely different tools than the tutorial suggested, had to stick to cloning, copy-paste and modifying cut-out pieces, alas. I want a warp brush!!!
If longer titles were accepted it would have been Libra - The balance of Predator and Prey

Thank you
for providing both the lion [link] and one of the the zebras [link]
for the other zebra [link]

Cheers,
Q-Rai

edit: Corrected the opacity of the stripes for the face

XD

I suppose this makes literal "you are what you eat." Very nicely done, and a cute idea. Thanks for letting me see!

It definitely does!
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it

Oh my God! This is awesome hun. I wants me one of these. What do you reckon it eats though? Grass or meat?! XD

Q-Rai In reply to JinDevilKazama [2007-10-30 09:22:23 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot! took me aaaaaaaages to match the zebra anatomy on the lion's
What about both? I'd rather say meat though because it still looks more like a predator

JinDevilKazama In reply to Q-Rai [2007-10-30 16:37:38 +0000 UTC]

No problems, hun. And I bet it did, I'm not even going to attempt doing anything like this for a fair while! XD Need to get my head around everything else to perfection yet!

And I'd agree methinks!

Q-Rai In reply to JinDevilKazama [2007-11-01 14:36:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeh, well practise makes perfect Some day you will be able to do this easily.
I just found out yesterday that it could have been a lot easier than the way I did it! XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JinDevilKazama In reply to Q-Rai [2007-11-02 00:16:33 +0000 UTC]

Indeed it does. But it's soooo damn frustrating! >< Especially lately.

But that's a bitch! XD Finding out there was an easier way AFTER the fact! Oh wells, guess you'll remember it for another time!

Q-Rai In reply to JinDevilKazama [2007-11-03 11:58:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeh...it sometimes really is. However, when you learned the tricks, it starts getting a lot more convenient...
Haha yes it is, but now I know there's an easier way, I'm willing to do another one.

JinDevilKazama In reply to Q-Rai [2007-11-03 15:30:33 +0000 UTC]

XD Indeed, once you've learned things, they get stored in your brain somehow, and it makes for easier use later on! And indeed, I look forwards to seeing your next one then!

Q-Rai In reply to JinDevilKazama [2007-11-03 16:27:04 +0000 UTC]

yup there's stuff you don't simply forget and the more you do it the better you get at it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JinDevilKazama In reply to Q-Rai [2007-11-03 16:29:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, exactly!

There's some stuff I remember from ages ago, before I even started using Photoshop or anything of the likes! XD

you've done well with this one; especially the legs.
the shape of the face is nicely done aswell; although, i think its just a little to dark.. But its all up to u how pronounced it is.

Thanks for using the tutorial.

Q-Rai In reply to theartofjayharrison [2007-10-30 09:19:15 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!
you're right about the face being a bit dark, I might change that (I used the same options for all the zebra layers but the face is taken from a different source image than the rest.. XD)

you're welcome!

I dont know if gimp has adjustment layers or not; but just play around with the levels for that layer if possible.. might be the easiest way to fix it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Q-Rai In reply to theartofjayharrison [2007-10-30 10:02:41 +0000 UTC]

I've never heard of adjustment layers but I thought I'd just reduce the opacity of the face layer

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

theartofjayharrison In reply to Q-Rai [2007-11-17 10:06:34 +0000 UTC]

that would work aswell i guess

i couldnt work without adjustment layers these days.

I read a bit about them and The Gimp doesn't seem to have them However, I'm fine with the outcome after reducing the opacity
