WELL! Have a seat friend, I'm about to ramble for an indeterminate amount of time.
So I knew I wanted to have Luggage and Barnabus and maybe even Billy there, and also have some other pets and stuff. And since I knew there is a giant underground cavern hot spring beneath the city, there had to be a native species that lived there. So... Salamegas! Giant lizards with glowing spots and eyes and poisonous teeth that eat anything that falls into their cave. They used to attack the pipe workers until Lalna and Nano started training and domesticating them.
And that's how I decided to make them lizards. Because they live in a hot spring in a desert, so they're going to need and love the heat.
