Okay, I'm sick of bronies going all EWW WHAT IS THIS FIM IS 20% COOLER!1!1 on Youtube videos of past gen ponies.I don't like bronies that say that every gen before G4 is terrible just because they saw ten seconds of Newborn Cuties.
Oh and G2 doesn't have a cartoon, so what are you basing that on? MLP Tales? It's actually late G1.
If Lauren Faust didn't like G1, then Friendship is Magic wouldn't exist. I had someone with a Twilight Sparkle roleplay account on Facebook said to me that the G1 cartoon is 'bad and outdated.'
And the first G1 special (pilot?) isn't actually that bad, it's not girly and it's similar to the FiM pilots. (Tirac/Nightmare Moon wants the night to last forever, rainbows defeat Tirac/Nightmare Moon.)
And My Little Pony is about the toys anyway.
Now if bronies can yell at people that don't like FiM, why can't I?

Ugh... those YT comments make me facepalm so hard. One said that Gen I didn't care about character development in the show and only cared about putting in as many ponies as possible in the show so that they could make more dolls and make more money. Yeah, was more about the dolls, not the show. Anyone who did any research would tell you that the dolls always came first and then put into the show.
When people mention to them that Gen I paved to way to FiM, one replied with "Without Polio we wouldn't have the Polio Vaccine." Worst of all this comment had about 60 likes...
Without Gen I I probably wouldn't have had any interest in checking out the new MLP. People should respect it more or just not watch the show if they choose not to. Leave the old school fans alone. PS: I love that you used my favorite Gen I pony for this <3 Fizzy FTW.

Yes, it is rather depressing that there are bronies who think G1 sucks without realizing that the first eps of Friendship Is Magic borrowed elements from the first G1 cartoon special (the one with Tirec), and also forget that Applejack originated from G1, and Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash were also based off ponies from G1 as well (Twilight and Firefly).
Some of my friends love both G1 and G4 MLP.

One of the reasons I can think is because of this ~
G1: -Back then- Was Aimed at -just- girls. It was the era of girls cartoons & boys cartoons. Sure, they had the big brother ponies who never caught on well, sadly. ( Wish they did, they were awesome! )
G4: Is aimed at -both- boys and girls alike, with more boys ponies. So when G4 fans look back at G1 and such, they think 'this is -too-' girly etc'
However, it wasn't -that- girly. There were some dark moments in the show. I never saw rescue to midnight castle, I was born late 80's so.. I grew up on 'my little pony and friends' and..I wouldn't say its outdated, old yes, but to me..it still holds up.
Every MLP cartoon had different animation each time, G1, G2 ( though they were toys but still different style ), G3 ( that generation I was not fond of ) and of course G4. All different art styles.
And I agree, Lauren faust's fave pony was Firefly correct? She based Rainbow dash on Firefly, If I am right and I'm sure Lauren -tried- / wanted firefly to be in the show, but couldn't so, she based Rainbow dash on firefly ( again correct me if I am wrong )
I was watching an old MLP episode and saw bashing comments myself. Okies, if ya don't like it fine but.. G1 was before G4 and as you said "If Lauren Faust didn't like G1, then Friendship is Magic wouldn't exist"
I like G4, but..I don't understand the -hype- about it, yeah I will say its a good show, its nicely done and -way- better then the G3 ponies. However, it won't beat the classic G1 for me, I'm a retro kinda girl and to be honest the adventures in G1 are a little better then those in G4. Thats my opinion anyways.
I understand people have a right to 'dislike' things, but some bash without reason without giving it a chance. I noticed one of your commenters said "They nitpicked every little thing right down to the wire"
Okies, every show has its flaws. I bet if someone sat there and watched G4 you could nitpick as well. Better yet, don't nitpick and just -enjoy- the cartoon.
Take for example Spongebob: He can -cook- underwater, they have -water- underwater and can create -fire- underwater..yeah, sod logic! People have questioned -how- can he make fire when hes -underwater- But hell, people still watch it, because its a cartoon.
MLP Tales: I never watched this but, I did see some episodes and I know people are like 'how are they doing that with their hooves?' to be honest..you could say the same for G1, G3 and G4. Unless I am missing something, correct me please. Still, despite MLP tales being 'different' people still enjoyed it.

I never grew up watching MLP, either it's because I was born in 1990 or we didn't have the channel that showed it, and the closest I ever was to being an MLP fan back then was when I got and MLP toy for Christmas. I had so much fun with it too!

I defiantly agree. I mostly grew-up on G3, but I always enjoyed the G1 and G2 toys. I personally like most of the past MLP's, some even better than G4.

G1 and G4 are the only MLPs I can tolerate. They're not full of ridiculous story lines that make no sense with terrible voice acting. I love how Lauren adds some touch of G1 in FiM! Like Twilight's mum being Twilight from G1 :3

Until 2010, Midnight Castle was the best thing ever related to My Little Pony. It was really, really good and the only reason I'm rough on G1 sometimes is because none of them get even close to being as exciting and fantastic as Midnight Castle was. Also, "Call Upon the Seaponies" is equally good as Giggle at the Ghostly. Yes it is. Plus, I actually really like the animation style in Midnight Castle the most, where they were less stubby and chubby than later episodes and looked more pony-like. Well, and the baby ponies. Good lord, I HATE G1 baby ponies so much. I want to drop kick every one of them. Ugh.
Still, in the rest of G1 there are several episodes that are legitimately good for an 80s merch cartoon, and in places it gets surprisingly dark out of nowhere. It's a show that's more outdated than simply bad.
My Little Pony Tales is... strange what with the using hooves for hands, but I always really liked that one too. I kinda grew up with it, even though it was never that interesting. Its calm, slice of life tone I liked a lot for some reason. I still find it relaxing, and sometimes watch a few episodes to fall asleep. I used to try other Pony series, but all of them were either too interesting or too painful to sit though.
I actually kinda like G3 in areas too. Every once in a while there'd be these little hints of something that was really interesting. I am constantly fascinated by the implication that Eath, Unicorn, and Pegasus ponies all live in their own little areas. It makes the gears in my head turn like crazy. Are they segregated? Why are they segregated? How did they get this way? Is the unicorn princess just in charge of unicorns, or all the ponies? Why doesn't anypony venture out to newer places more often? Why are the pegasi so shy and why are they reserved to Butterfly Island? Did something happen to them?
AND WHERE ARE ALL THE MALES? G3 is the ONLY Pony series without any males anywhere at any time, not counting Spike. It's creepy.
The fact that after FiM I keep trying to unite all of these xseries into one continuity doesn't help any of those questions at all.

I honestly am so sick of Bronies bashing G1 just because "OMG teh animation is terrible" or some other half-baked excuse. I went on YouTube to look up "Return of Tambelon", my absolute favorite G1 episode, and I was appalled by the comments. They nitpicked every little thing right down to the wire and then went back and beat it with a stick, generally speaking. Good God, was I pissed.
And you are right about Rescue at Midight Castle being similar to the premiere episode(s) of Friendship is Magic. Heck, the Elements of Harmony are basically just the Rainbow of Light in a different form.
I could go on and on, but I don't want to clog up your message box or get any more peeved than I already am, so I'll just leave it at that.

UGH. I know how you feel. I found an older 2008 video with G3 ponies and everyone commented, "OMG LIEK THESE THINGZ R NAWT PONEHZ DERE MONSTURRZ". They're worse than those insane retro-Crash Bandicoot fans who hate the new Crash because he has tattoos, or something.

I agree. There's a G1 hating person on a board I go to. He loves FiM, but if you mention anything to him about a previous MLP generation, he's all "That sucks! That was horrible!" and basically acts like there was not one good thing about any previous MLP generation.
Well if the old MLP generation was as bad as he believes, then Friendship of Magic would never have been made.

MLP was my childhood and it really pisses me off to see people bash the old generations. I really loved MLP as a kid, and I'm gonna quote miss Faust when I say: "My poines went on epic adventures to save the world!" and while I do admit G3 was really girly and G1 was... a tiny bit girly, That doesn't make them automatically horrible and outdated like you said (hell, even G4 is a little bit girly)

I never liked my little pony when I was younger, could never get into it and I admit that, but I don't go around ridiculing others for liking the previous generations because if it wasn't for them then Lauren would of never been inspired to make FiM. It's sort of a respect your elders sort of deal you know? Now that I'm in the pony fandom I decided hey, what the buck let's give the previous gens a go. I will say I can /not/ get into to G3 or G3.5, but I do like My Little Pony Tales. So I appreciate all the generations before FiM even if I don't like them I'm not going to down talk it.

OH MY CELESTIA. Finally, someone who gets it. I cheered irl when I read the part about G2. IT'S SO TRUE. I don't understand where people get that. The G1 TV series is pretty inventive for what it was (a plot to sell toys) but the villains were great if nothing else. Rescue at Midnight Castle scared the living crap out of me when I was a kid. Kidnapping, demonic transfiguration, bringing of eternal night, and brainwashing, yeah, that was MLP!

Yup. I grew up on the shows of that generation. These days, I hate G1's chunky pony designs, but it's not bad, even while I'm looking at it as an adult. I think the G1 flamers are just too used to how FiM is, and don't want to see G1's qualities.

I'm not a huge fan of the art style, I do prefer FiM from an aesthetic standpoint, but yeah, without G1 we wouldn't have G4.
G1 isn't that bad, I don't get why they're bitching. The G1 style is better for toys, G4 is better for animation. Each style has its pros and cons.

I wish some of the past Generation ponies would appear in MLP FIM! I hate copyright sometimes, I heard they didn't allow past G! ponies or characters in the FIM show. The only characters that are still around is Spike and Applejack. I wish the others would bein in the show but that would bein a hand full.

I think they only have copyright to the G3 ponies. Applejack and Spike appeared in G3 so I guess that's why they can be brought back.
I also wish G1 and some of the G4 toys can have cameos in the background, they don't have to be named, like Twilight's mother.

I guess it isn't very nice for some male bronies to needlessly bash G1 MLP when some female bronies/fans still like it, or have nostalgia for it.
I actually do remember watching the original "My Little Pony" movie & TV show with my sister, when we were real little, (she was obsessed with the toys, she had a ton) and to be honest I didn't mind it, or hate it actually.
It wasn't bad, but of course, being a boy, it didn't connect with me the way the modern show does though, so I didn't watch it regularly, or anything.
I can understand why bronies don't like G3 though. (No offense.) It was kinda "kiddier/girllier" then most MLP incarnations, and they kinda dumbed-down, overly P.C., and made them a li'l to girly, and like the "Get-Along Gang," (everyone always agrees/gets along) so to speak.
It's better, and more realistic when the characters/friends have more different personalities, as well as conflicts, and issues with each other sometimes. (Even the Care Bears had problems, could get upset, and stuff sometimes.)
