Okay, I'm sick of bronies going all EWW WHAT IS THIS FIM IS 20% COOLER!1!1 on Youtube videos of past gen ponies.I don't like bronies that say that every gen before G4 is terrible just because they saw ten seconds of Newborn Cuties.
Oh and G2 doesn't have a cartoon, so what are you basing that on? MLP Tales? It's actually late G1.
If Lauren Faust didn't like G1, then Friendship is Magic wouldn't exist. I had someone with a Twilight Sparkle roleplay account on Facebook said to me that the G1 cartoon is 'bad and outdated.'
And the first G1 special (pilot?) isn't actually that bad, it's not girly and it's similar to the FiM pilots. (Tirac/Nightmare Moon wants the night to last forever, rainbows defeat Tirac/Nightmare Moon.)
And My Little Pony is about the toys anyway.
Now if bronies can yell at people that don't like FiM, why can't I?

why do people hate it so much? i mean, i only had a couple of the dolls when i was little, so i never really got into the fandom. I don't care if it's "gen 1" or "FiM" it's still "My Little Pony" what's the difference anyway? No matter what generation it is, it's still about magical talking ponies... But like i said, i was never into the franchise that much, so maybe it's not my place to speak.

Dear lord, this stamp is soooo true. I grew up on G3(loved the toys, hate the show), but then one day I took a look at G1 and loved it. The toys, the show...everything. Although the voice acting could have been a little better i have to admit. Though, I wish i could slap all those stupid bashing bronies on YT. Seriously, FiM wouldn't be here had it not been for G1. I think FiM is awesome(hate the toys!), but I think G1 is too. It's just G3.5 that freaks me out....

I just watched Rescue at Midnight Castle, and I've decided to give my opinion on it.
Bad:
* It was kind of cheesy
* It was obviously made for a younger audience, but I was kind of expecting that.
* The voices were kind of bland
* The musical numbers were also kind of bland
* The Sea Ponies came across as a convenient plot device
Good:
* It was a cheesy eighties cartoon. I know I listed cheesiness as a bad characteristic above, but at the same time I think there's a certain charm to it as well.
* Despite being filled with holes, it had an interesting plot
* Tirek was an interesting villian. A little bland, but still interesting.
* Scorpan was also interesting
* Despite not doing much, I kind of liked Habit. He reminds me off a nicer version of Angel Bunny.
* Is it a problem that I actually sort of liked the sea pony song?
All in all I would have to say that I give it a 7/10

I'll admit I have seen any MLP stuff besides Friendship is Magic, but I really have no problem with any of the previous generations, and I keep meaning to watch the original cartoon (my problem is that I keep procrastinating). What I think a lot of bronies don't seem to understand is that FiM actually borrows heavily from previous generations including G3.5.

A lot do them do know many things from FiM come from the previous generations. I think it's because they think the previous gen ponies are 'ugly'. And Equestria Daily hating the previous gens didn't help either.

Yeah, the original will always have my heart, and it's rare when I see a reboot/remake to a childhood series that I even agree with. I wanna get the boxset to the original series soooo freakin bad already lol

I love late G1/G2 (for the toys).
I love G3 (Not a big fan of 3.5 though).
Most bronies hate old generations.

Even if I like the MLP:FIM show, G1 will always be my favourite, because this is one of the cartoon I grew up with. And, as you said, the story is similar to FIM, with as much action, and, honnestly, not so much "girly things" (sure, they are colorfull talking horses, but they were always fighting a lot of freakin danger)

At least I've got a reason for not liking G3.5. I like them because they're tiny, and ponies, and I don't like them because their faces were molded to be the ugliest little things, and their legs look like bags full of beans. XD

Not only MLP suffers such idiotic fans, cartoons like Transformers are victims of such idiots... I mean, of course G1 series are different. Plot holes, bugs, cliches... but they were created like... 30 years ago? Respect them even if you don't like them, okay? If Hasbro hasn't create G1 then MLP:Fim, TF:A/P wouldn't exist at all!

^ This. Not to mention, back then those cartoons were created for only one purpose - they were a perfect way to advertise children's toys. Back then, Hasbro was completely unaware that these seemingly "kiddie shows" will prove to be such a huge success and would leave a cult following.
A fine example of this was the whole situation regarding the 1986 "Transformers: The Movie". The Hasbro representatives as well as the producers of the movie, were shocked to find out that kids didn't like their favorite characters (mainly Optimus Prime) being killed off. They just created the movie for the purpose of killing off the old characters (old toys) and introducing the new ones (new toys).
The G1 series, both when it comes to Transformers and MLP, even though they can be really cheesy, have a lot of bloopers, plot holes etc. are are still decent shows.
And I agree with you: G1 series was the main introduction for both of these shows/toylines. They were the first and they were the ones to leave a huge legacy behind them, which continues to this day. And people should really respect it for that.
Now if we could only get this into the thick skulls of some of those idiot fans out there...

Yeah. 1986 movie. Tons of killed characters to bring new ones. Though it was sad, it gave a birth for the more basic ideas of the whole TF franchise. Like Unicorn, Galvatron, Matrix...
Besides, it's sometimes funny to watch old cartoons with your friends and talk about bloopers. Like three Starscreams in one screen shot 
Those idiots... I try to ignore them, really. I just watch old cartton and enjoy them. Haters can hate me and them for this, I don't care XD
