Thank you! Well, in my humble opinion, I don't think Azula tries to hide the fact that she is female from anyone. She is not a character who would complain for being born female, and I personally think she is proud of being who she is. She always wears a heavy armor because, well, she is a warrior xD Bikini-armor would not be useful to her, would it?

It could be differing interpretations, I guess. It's just that her armor isn't really remotely feminine--she wears these giant plates covering up her breasts, which makes it seem that she wants to appear like a man. My idea is that she's so ambitious and eager to please her father that she doesn't want anyone to think she's weak, and that being feminine--in her mind--is associated with weakness, even though we all know that's not true at all.

I do agree with you that she's very proud of who she is, but that her pride is mingled in with a little insecurity, you know? That's part of what pushes her so hard. I mean, even the swimsuit she wore in the beach episode was pretty conservative, compared to Ty Lee or Mai.

Yeah, all is up to interpretations. Her armor looks like Zuko's, and is slightly similar to the rest of armors firebenders in the Fire Nation army wear. Maybe Azula and Zuko's one is the one made for the crown princes, who knows. What I like about the Fire Nation is that they don't seem to make any difference between men and women when it comes to the army, unlike they do at the Water Tribe.

Yes, Azula is insecure under a lot of layers she made up to give a different impression of herself. I think Mai's one was faaaaaaaaaar more conservative than Azula's to be honest xDDD She wasn't showing anything! XD

Heh, the Water Tribe. They're awful. Men are warriors, women stay at home, and that's all there is to it. For all the complaints they make about the Fire Nation, the latter is really far more egalitarian when it comes to gender relations.

But then that might just be a part of the martial ethos--it's okay for women to join the army, but then they have to fit in with everyone else, which means wearing extremely masculine armor.

Hm, was Mai's more conservative? I haven't seen the episode in a while. Her outfits are generally more feminine than Azula's though, so her swimsuit might just have more coverage because she didn't want a tan? Mai certainly likes looking pale!

I don't know. I guess I just get bothered by all the drawings of Azula in skimpy clothing, because she's a princess and deserves more dignity than to be slobbered at. This isn't a complaint against you, since you drew her with realistic proportions and I like your other art, but... it's just weird to see her in such an extremely skimpy bikini. I am glad you didn't give her super muscular abs like a lot of fanartists have though--she had a smooth stomach in the show, for goodness sakes!
