Description

Built some years after the inital Nexcelsior Class; in 2385 the Project NEX programme's last vessel to be built was planned. The USS Nexcelsior, NCX-42000 was returned to the Alpha Centari Shipyards, and completely stripped back to a bare frame.

When the new ship came out, it bore the name of Excelsior, but with a new registry, NX-42037
The new USS Excelsior, NX-42037 was the first of the Neo-Nexcelsiors, but there would only be 8 ships rebuilt into Neo-Nexcelsiors; as the ship's design was to be tweaked and improved by the time the 2400s arrived.

The Neo-Nexcelsior Class borrows more asthetics from the Soverigen Class, including the elongated saucer section, heavier hull plating, as well as some changes done after the USS Voyager returned and was studied heavily; as the Neo-Nexcelsiors can deploy Ablative Hull Armour at a moments notice, is armed with early Transphasic Torpedoes, alongside it's standard Quantum Torpedoes, as well as multi-phasic shielding that adapts quickly to the situation its in.

The Neo-Nexcelsiors were astonishing powerhouses, especially when it encountered Borg vessels. The USS Hood, NCC-42296-A encountered a dormant Borg Cube on the outskirts of the Nutural Zone; it reported it to Starfleet and forwarded it's message to the nearest Romulan vessel, then departed. The USS Yorktown, NCC-42033 (technical successor to the USS Yorktown, NCC-2033) was in the Alpha Quadrant, roughly in the region of Deep Space Nine; when a sole Jem'Hadar Bugship hushed on by going towards the Badlands, followed shortly after by two more Bugships and a Cardassian Galor, the Hood's captain made haste to DS9 to report on what he and his crew saw. When the Hood arrived a Romulan Stormbird was docked at the station.

Yep, here is the Neo-Nexcelsior Class, the direct precursor towards the Excelsior-II Class; as it predates the Excelsior-II there are obivous differences between the two, but it still has the future proofing for the Excelsior-II Class to be done.
