Description
A fairly random map for a SFnal setting, a couple centuries hence. After a couple centuries and 2-3 more World Wars (people argue) ethnic patterns have changed a bit. Some depopulated territories have been resettled or subject to “neo-neo-colonialism” from elsewhere: the Indians were the winner of WW 4/5 in the sense that there were enough of them left to avoid being assimilated by Persians or Indonesians.
France is presently governed from Montreal, and Poland was recreated (somewhat inaccurately) by the Polish-American community. The Argentines don’t pay much attention to the claims of the Russian Fifth Republic: they are a very solid majority east of the Baltic.
The Caliphate is fairly democratic nowadays, and not much more conservative than, say, 2008 McCain states, aside from modes of dress. Much wackier are the Indians, who have largely closed themselves off from the world in their pursuit of a '
The US largely dominates the PanAmerican Alliance, save for corporation-run Brazil, and they don’t mind the US leading the show as long as profits run high.
The Southern Africans are the newest of the major powers, and a bit insecure about their identity, what with the multiplicity of languages, the religious divisions between the various Christian sects, the Islamic minority, the Neo-Paganists, and the Mormons, and the debate as to which, if any, of the half-dozen or so African American identities developed since the Civil War is worth emulating. They are currently allies of the Americans.
The Philippinos form a rather loose sort of alliance with the other three major powers of mainland East Asia: one of the world’s most densely populated countries, they are the leading regional power. Of late, they have been grumbling about the Koreans allowing the Japanese to establish some of their bubble-cities in the Siberian North, which they’ve never been able to make much out of: the Japanese, the majority of which have lived off earth rather than on it since the 4th World War, are accustomed to make a living in quite harsher conditions. WWII and the older business with the ears may not have much resonance with modern Koreans, but the Philippinos really don’t trust those vat-grown wierdos.

Do you still plan to write a story for this universe you have created? That would be awesome if that happened! And great background and map by the way!

1,2: The Caliphate originally arose in the east, and unfied under a new form of Islam arising in the crisis of the 21st century. The states of West Africa eventually converted to the new faith and joined the Caliphate (some of them not very willingly at first): the more traditional and secular Muslims of the Pan-Arab Union consider them heretical and don't recognize the authority of the Caliph, and they're big and powerful enough a state that they can't be forced. This greatly annoys the Caliphs.
3. An older name for Vietnam, meaning "Great Viet." Emphasizes the expansion of the Vietnamese state into nuclear/bio-war depopulated China.
4. Northern Europe was pretty much wiped out in WWIII, and various American nations, having come to help the few survivors left, ended up sticking around and assimilating the area. South Americans were the first to come, having been hit less hard than North America. A coalition took charge of aid work in the Baltic area: the Argentines were the only ones who stuck around in the radioactive hell-hole the place had become, and became the local government by default. The US got involved after it had managed to patch itself up a bit, and ended up absorbing the particularly depopulated areas of the UK and Germany.
5. Not in the Fascist sense, the mega-corps generally say frog and the government hops.
6. Avoided getting vaporized by anyone, and now form a federal union. More populous than in 2012, since the climate has warmed up somewhat...
