My current headcanon doesn't involve Spike doing magic like this, but I just felt like drawing it.Just a fair warning: I'm shooting the first person who makes an Avatar joke through the head.

I wasn't even thinking of Avatar. With that faint green glow inside his chest, I was thinking Dragonheart. Makes me wonder if Spike could place the other half on his heart inside another being and keep them alive with him.
And Dancing Pickles on Sticks!!! I just now thought of that and realized it would solve any differences between dragon and pony lifespans! Something canon in another fantasy universe, that has been a favorite of mind for years, and I only just now applied it to one of my favorite fictional characters of all time.

His magic's prolly more aligned with his breathing abilities....
However, some dragonlore depicts special dragons that have various other abilities like hypnosis via eye contact, mirages with their breath, Telepathy with.... well, their minds....
And many others as well....

I believe that whatever spell Spike can perform, he has to perform them by breathing the fire. When he makes a fire and it starts burning on its own, I think it's beyond his powers to manipulate it anymore.

That aside, I always thought Dragon Fire is controlled as explained in "The Legend of Spyro."
I grew up along with that story, and some of the Dragons in "Dragon Quest" reminded me of
how creative the designs can be. This is why I've always thought of this at the mention.

I think Spike can do his own magic and just hasn't been permitted to learn it yet, for whatever reason.Β But if he couldn't do magic, he wouldn't be burping letters.

I too believe Spike's flame breath has magical properties to it. I just don't think he will manipulate fire like this in the show.

No I feel like he would be able to have his magic fire still but be able to like teleportΒ himself and others with it because it would be stronger. And he could use it to levitate things
