so what are spike and jade's relationship overall? Friends? a couple? I understand the title reunion would most of the time refer to family oriented material but this isn't always the case now is it? so do tell; what kind of reunion is it supposed to be?

Well what was jade to spike when he was with her? I'll assume she's his friend because of this:queencold.deviantart.com/art/H⦠. But I'm also gonna assume that was the same outcome for Jade...for a while. The linked picture proves it. Spike sees her as just a friend while Jade sees him as much more, and I assume she'd also be disappointed to hear what Spike thinks of Rarity and ends up envying her and tries to pathetically hide it much to very obvious results seen here at panel #5: queencold.deviantart.com/art/I⦠. So my take on the reunion is that Spike thinks of it as a friendly reunion while Jade thinks of it differently so; differently being romantic or friendly if she accepted the fact that spike and Rarity are in love even for someone his size but size doesn't matter when you're in love.

As it stands Jade and Spike are just friends. Whether it stays like that or not is unclear and I'm keeping it that way. Jade values her friendship with Spike and appreciates it as it is, even if she does develop a crush on him. Rarity is a good friend of Jade's and she doesn't harbor any negative feelings towards the mare. Yes, she'd like to be in her position, but that's just about it. Even if Rarity did start to show the same kind of interest in Spike as Spike has in her, Jade would mostly be sad for herself, while being happy for Spike. She does have a jealous side to her, since she still considers her own feelings and she's still a dragon, but it doesn't really come out. A part of why she can't get too upset with Rarity, even when she does take advantage of Spike's generosity, is because she holds her in high regard as well and is just too fond of her. She is mature enough to handle the situation with a degree of poise.

well that's good to hear. The fact that Jade accepts the fact that Spike only sees her as a friend is what truly shows Jade's understanding and mature side of her; she accepts that reality and isn't being clingy about the subject by never letting Spike have his personal space or privacy and constantly gripping him tightly. She respects his choices as he respects hers; apart from the love discussion spoken of earlier. With that being said, I believe Jade is just a tiny bit envious towards Rarity but still allows her friendship to rise over that negative emotion, and she also allows herself to love spike as a friend; nothing more but nothing less, in a positive way might I add.

Well, most, if not all, dragons in the show have them. Dunno why Spike is allways shown without wings in all his "adult" forms

I wanted to keep the dynamic between the characters the same, even after all that time. Jade is a late bloomer, a bit of an ugly duckling. I wanted to show that even if you start out a bit awkward, you can still become the belle of the ball, and not just physically.

I based him on his greed-grown form, but made him less ragged to give him a more natural look.

They raised the dragons, so it makes sense. This is also why Fluttershy isn't afraid of Jade.
