Description [EDIT]

So I finally remade this tutorial. The main reason for that is the fact that the so-called layout was just horrible.

I've used different photos as well (because I didn't keep the old ones -.-)
But basically the content is still the same, I've just added a few things.

If you, however, prefer the old version: It can be found there [link]

-----

If anyone detects a mistake or has a suggestion for a different wording in some cases, feel free to tell me.
I'm bad at explaining, especially in English xD

before or AFTER baking? is it really possible to slice it after?

By the way, thank you for this helpful tutorial! Awesome

Sorry for the late reply! It's definitely possible to slice it after baking, provided the cane isn't too thick and you're using something sharp

And thank you, glad you found it helpful!

The part where I start to have questions is later on - with the slicing and such. What are the best ways to slice them and then turn them into charms/beads/etc.? Do you have product or method recommendations?

Leapardpool [2012-08-07 03:44:05 +0000 UTC]

How many times would be the best to repeat it? More than three I want to make it have a bunch of things (I don't know what their called X3) but not too much to make it look weird like the lime that you pointed to in the picture tutorial up there ^ :3 Oh I mean in step 6 I think

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

QueEnOfNights In reply to Leapardpool [2012-11-11 14:48:01 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply!

I would repeat it four times actually...because six will make it look weird and five usually makes it look a bit irregular unless you really know what you're doing

Thanks for taking the time to create and share it.

QueEnOfNights In reply to Auraysu [2012-07-30 12:04:26 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Well, you could use them for necklaces, earrings and other jewellery. If they're really small they can also be used for nail art or just as decoration in general.
Or if you make clay miniatures like cupcakes and other stuff, the slices can be used to decorate those

Kinda tried this.. I dont have polymer clay just yet, but i tried with modelling clay. Which, of course, softens when meddled with. 8I
Too bad i have really warm hands too.. Cutting the slices was really annoying LOL, it squished and i needed to reform it all the time. Oh well.
I really like the result though, even rolled into so thin it's quite detailed! [link]

Thanks a lot for sharing this tutorial! Absolutely going to try next with polymer and with different colors! =3

..Considered it's kind of my first try with any polymer clay-method. ;w; It is really messy, the slices are not even and not in line but..
Practise makes perfect, right? I really hope so ;o;

now I tried to make it and whenever I try to make it thin by flattening it I do a test cut and all the colors just mix around so I just gave up

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

QueEnOfNights In reply to GamerGirl5263 [2012-01-25 17:18:55 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry to hear that, actually I know quite a few people who have problems with that, I guess it might depend on the clay they're using

MiniaturePastelz [2011-11-27 03:20:05 +0000 UTC]

Agh! Every time I try to make one, the clay in the center blends together whenever I cut into it! I have even put it in the fridge! What should I do!!!!!?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

QueEnOfNights In reply to MiniaturePastelz [2011-11-29 21:09:20 +0000 UTC]

Maybe you should try cutting them after baking! Works fine as long as the canes are quite thin.

how do you cut polymer clay after it is baked?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

QueEnOfNights In reply to GamerGirl5263 [2011-11-29 21:04:15 +0000 UTC]

Basically you just use a razor blade or something similar, the sharper the better
It usually works fine when it comes to small objects like these canes.

LinkHalo00 [2011-09-11 23:08:21 +0000 UTC]

OH EM GEE. This is the most effective and good looking method I've seen for most citrus fruit canes. o.o You have my utmost congratz! Haha
