Description
Traditional drawing of a hummingbird (Green-crowned brilliant - Heliodoxa jacula). It was fun to draw all these iridescent feathers (too bad my scanner messed up the colours and the contrast a bit...)! It could be a bit better, but I gave up drawing all these feathers properly after a while.Reference picture by "Mike" Michael L. Baird (flickr.bairdphotos.com ): www.flickr.com/photos/mikebairβ¦

Wow, what a stunning photogra.. Wait, what? This is a drawing?! I really don't get it - it looks SO much like the real thing!!
Everything - starting with the clear looking eye and hight detailed area around it, to the very accurately placed light reflections, these little body feathers shining quite metallic due to the white accents, ending somewhere with the wing feathers' thin structures.
Let alone the beautiful choice of those flashing bright colors (even though it's all green, sort of). And even the background, dark and blurry as it is, looks still convincing.
Awesome isn't even a thing compared to this incredible piece of art!!Β Β

I LOVE hummingbirds! I actually have caught one similar to this. I like to stand right in front of my feeder outside and watch them. It is so cool to see them fly down and drink right in front of my face! Β

I love them, too. But sadly we don't have hummingbirds in Germany...

amazing detail.and the colors are well amazing. My eyes would be bleeding and my hands would never speak to me again If I Β ever Β tried anything that detailed...but then again I cant manage a stick figure with my busted up digits
I love watching hummingbirds at my feeder. Not the same species as your drawing. but a few have the most incredible colors of green. How anything can move with such speed, and agility amazes me.

I've never seen a hummingbird in real life. Sadly we don't have hummingbirds in Germany.

you should petition to have them imported
I Β loved to watch them dart in and around the feeders. They turn my front yard into an airshow at times.
if you pulled that drawing off fro a picture or illustration alone i am raising my opinion of the drawing a notch or two.
occasionally one will loose a feather when sparring with another bird or naturally so I had a chance to examine them up close. ( although finding one is sheer luck)some of the feathers are almost translucent, when the sun catches them just right they can be iridescent.....and that is spectacular. you did a good job of catching Β that with the drawing.

Lol!
In our yard are just some sparrows, tomtits, redstarts,...
I admit that it was not easy to draw these iridescent feathers, but I really like challenges!
Thanks again!
