Main character of Twilight Hour, Ashe (seen here with Penny) has undergone many revisions ... his current incarnation, I feel, is his strongest.Related content

Thanks, for the character drawings like this, I always feel that attitude is most important.

Whoa... Although I have some anatomy issues (yeah, yeah, anatomy sucks and all ) His pose seems unnaturally tilted to the right. His chest seems too long in proportion to his legs. His face is flat (again
) and his head seems too small compared to his body. Apart from that - good stuff. Great costume - I'm a sucker for golfs - and Penny kicks proverbial ass.

Yes! Indeedy!
As Oscar Wilde once said: The English have everything really in common with Americans except of course language.

Very cool design- I like the casual look. But, I think he is outclassed by Penny. (So I like dragon-things... I'm biased.)

Looks gorgeous! A little more simplier than the last one, so now he is more easier to draw over and over again and again.
And..I love his pants. So rock 'n roll.

I would love to see the whole of his right shoe as well, however, I laid out the image wrong, and the edge of his shoe is the bottom edge of the paper. I would have cropped Ashe with the border design, but I really wanted to show his lower leggings, so I had to give a little at the bottom.

This has some really gorgeous composition, and the pose is utterly fantastic. The background is a nice touch in its simplicity - just seems to round off the image somehow.
I have a small crit - and that's how heavily he's leaning. His centre of gravity is based in the centre of where his feet fall, and unless one is propped up by something, if the back's rigid, the head will fall on the same line down the page. His is a little off to the side of that. But it's a minor thing, really.
The outfit is gorgeous, and I love the way Penny is peering over his shoulder. That's really wonderful. As always, this is fantastic work. :3

Thanks for the crit, I'll keep an eye on that in the future The background was completey spur of the moment. Originally I intended to do nothing more than to just line a box around Ashe.
Thanks for the wonderful compliments

I've liked all of the various designs I've seen for him, particularly the one that's still up at the site, but this one looks great, too. It's a bit simpler-- seems like it would be easier to reproduce again and again throughout a comic. I love the slightly 'tribal' feel others have mentioned, with the beads, feathers, and tattoos, but I must admit I will miss those metal gauntlets.
I also like how he's leaning slightly, as if from the weight of Penny.
His proportions look a bit awkward, probably because his legs are too short; I say only his legs because the rest of his figure seems elongated. I would like to see Penny rendered as having a more visible hold on Ashe, as well, perhaps with one of her claws on his shoulder or arm (unless, of course, there is a perch for her strapped to his back specifically for her).
Anyway, nice work!

QuestingRaven In reply to lastlabyrinth [2005-08-05 21:20:12 +0000 UTC]
Penny was added in as (almost) an afterthought. I wanted to have her gripping his shoulder, possibly perched on the pad he has there (convienently) for her, but by the time it was suggested that she be included in the image, I'd already worked up his upper torso, and erasing might have caused problems ... but I might just give it a try since I've already got a good scan of this one.
As for the legs, it's mostly in the lower leg ... when I realized I'd sporked the layout and didn't have enough room at the bottom of the page to finish him off ... I guess I "compressed" him a bit much ... maybe if I taped another piece and worked up the legs a bit more ... I'll have to give it a try.
As for the gauntlets, they may or may not return, I wanted to give the characters a more "real world" feel (which makes a LOT of sense having a miniature dragon POOFing around, I know). The gauntlets seemed to "comic book" for the general character image ... but the idea behind the original design was that they were desinged by Artimes to enhance Ashe's pyrokinetic abilities, so maybe later in the series something will turn up
Thanks for the kind words and honesty 'tis muchly appreciated

Well, I don't want to encourage you to go back and edit at the risk of damaging the original, but I feel obligated to provide what criticism I can. I don't usually go back and do edits using crits I get, not because I'm not listening to them, but because I'm keeping them in mind for later work.
They do have that comic book feel, and the new design is much more organic, so I'm not going to cry myself to sleep tonight, or anything.
You're quite welcome! Sorry for being so scarce around here, lately.

He's real spiffy looking. I dig his costume-design lots. I also dig the bits of the non-photo-blue pencil that you can still see -- they add an interesting sorta effect to it.

QuestingRaven In reply to karakanatmelek [2005-08-05 19:26:29 +0000 UTC]
I like the blue line effects too
Plus using the blue pencils first saves a LOT of time getting clean crisp lines
You should see the original for this one, the blue circles and guidlines for the background design are hella cool (very light though, I erased the worst of them so they wouldn't show through to badly on the scan).
Any chance of doing another trade at some point?

Would be neat to see. Now I'm curious what the original looks like with the guidelines still visible.
And. I really want to say: Yes! Because I'd love to do another trade with you! But I have no idea how long I'd take on it. I've noticed I have some issues with getting things done in a vaguely timely manner. ><

QuestingRaven In reply to nork [2005-08-08 13:08:50 +0000 UTC]
I run table top RPGs, and play Final Fantasy style games for the PS. I don't have a lot of time to spend on the computer when at home, nor do I really want to, since I work on one all day, and have a great family that needs attention when I get home
I've run Vampire: the Masquerade since it's original releace date in 91 (and various games that spun off that), D&D, CJ Carella's WitchCraft, and the Returner's Final Fantasy RPG, which is the game I'm gearing up to run at the end of the month.

He looks AWESOME! I love the changes you made! I like these better than the old gauntlets, and you added tribal like elements!! It looks great, and I love how Penny is just perched on him.
...but my picture was based off the old one. So he has the gauntlets. And no tattoos...
What should I do?!?!

Just work with what you've got I felt bad about the changes, since I knew that you were working on a Trade, but they needed to be done. Fear not, however, for I shall love it all the more as an "original version" of Ashe and Elspeth, instead of the "updated version"
