*edit again* changed background para consistent cya sa 1st one*edit* changed her right hand so that it doesnt look like her fingers got amputated anymore. also some minor color and shading edits.
*warning, i havent been typing on my journal recently, and this could be looooonnngg. pero pramis it's sorta related to this deviation*
I saw this *daMEAT contest a couple of days ago and it got me thinking. Is there really such a dress that could make [Tennis Girl] look like a pinay? I could see the reason for the "racking up our brains to think of one", it's quite hard to think of one on the spot. I remember a conversation i was having with (i think)~silentScope a couple of months ago about the existence of the elusive "Filipino Maid Uniform" i really thought that those really dont exist anywhere but in really rich people's houses or if the maid was really hot and the employer has a maid fetish going on. But the conversation led to me being informed that they do exist. Anyways, even if they do exist, i quite sure that i'll only get disappointed, since i'll be comparing them to the japanese maid uniforms... and the hotties that are wearing them.
Anyways, to summarize that, the filipino maid uniform idea in general is not really plausible because even if there was one, it could not be recognized as THE filipino maid uniform.
Well i've been thinking about the quest for the philippine moe for a while (btw, yes, there's a whole bunch of otaku stuff on my head, this is just one of em.), so i have lots to say on this but i guess i'll save it for a later time for the journal na lang.
That leaves me with either a waitress or a mascot. I didnt want to use the mascot option because it would just be too plain and easy. Just put on a baro't saya or something on [tennis girl] and voila! instant filipino mascot. (well, i did think of a concept using that before, but only with a futuristic, sorta cool battle suit version pero that concept wouldnt fit too much for this contest). Anyways, as filipino people who probably read comics *cough*buy our iNORTH indies*cough*, i think we all know the whole "mix of different cultures, influences" story from culture crash. That led me into thinking that using more traditional(old) filipino icons wouldnt be as effective. There's gotta be something more modern which could be recognized as filipino in this particular category.
So with that:
That leaves me with one option, but wait, this also poses a problem. there's just too many restaurants out there and they all have different outfits, what do i do? choose one? but how could someone differentiate it from the other foreign (western) watress outfits out there?
That was when i had my eureka(7) moment.
So moving on a couple of days ago, i was at sm fairview and i was walking around and i remembered this topic. I saw this big red insect mascot and it suddenly came to me. That's it! What could be a more Filipino waitress uniform that this!
With the idea coming, i decided to research on the subject. I also researched a Jolly Hotdog, Cheesy Fries, and of course, a Kiddie meal (tama ba? Kiddie...? Forgot e).
As i was analyzing the uniform, i noticed that it has these little details that actually make it look like a good uniform, like the pattern and the placement of the logos. the details are nice, but overall, it's still a plain uniform. and also, BLUE?? what were those uniform design department smoking when they thought blue was the best color to use to represent them in their uniform? i mean, mcdo has a lotsa red and they use red uniforms, burgerking has lotsa red and they use red uniforms, jolibee has lotsa red and they use... blue uniforms??? well, i guess though it's mostly blue, it still has some red and some yellow, hehe all the more reason why, it's the perfect filipino waitress uniform.
That being said, regardless of the color, it's still, in my opinion, the one uniform most people will recognize as a filipino waitress uniform and it this accomplishes the problem i gave earlier, for people to recognize it as filipino without using old traditional filipino icons
Well, i'm bored of typing already so i'll just describe the pic now and i'll go to sleep.
So as i was drawing this, i started out with the shirt completely unbuttoned, then i remebered the daMEAT rules so... sayang... well, it's for general audience na ngaun...
well, i still wanted to use the concept, so she's in a locker room (yes, that blurry thing in the background is a locker room, i'll fix it later, pero ok din naman ung contrast ng details ng character and background kaya i'll see na lang kung may feedback tungkol dun), just finishing changing into her uniform after playing some tennis. Just a moment too late for the camera guys i guess... it's still enough to make her blush. i also updraded her with some side ribbons for extra cuteness. ah i also like the uniform dito, zoom in to see the stripes pattern nung uniform.
Well, i wouldve done this days ago, pero it got side tracked by romeo x juliet, heroic age, gundam 00 tska witchblade, then the manga, then the movies, etc. hehe kala ko deadline na ngaun so i finally got motivated kanina. anyways, that's good coz i'll have time to improve this or make another one.
hehe ang haba na nga.... as you can see, jang is bored, really really bored.... and i have a 100 item test bukas sa philippine history, DAMN YOU, NON-CFAD PROF NA MASIPAG! (is this what "real" classes are like? wow, i finally feel the college!) and di pa ko nagaaral kahit konti... but i'll still watch anime until 2am today, and just try to do some "damage control" sa grade bukas.

I had to agree with the poster above. Filipina maids are stereotyped as ugly and had bad unforms, and usually of Visayan origin. That is why at least we need to have a more positive image so that even that is not the reality at least there is a good model the younger maids can copy.
/sarcastic
Galing ng drowing!

I'm not that fond of us filipinos being called a social worker more or less entitled as a "katulong"... I've had enough of the feeling of being brought down to scrap because we filipinos should be proud of who we are and our culture... Simple as we could be, but not reduced of being named "maids" or "boy, this one pretty takes the cake of the entries so far in my book... The other entries all look nice, but I hope we could settle for a more urban and mid-level view, more like a school girl or something like that...
The name I submitted won, "MAYA" and of the entries so far, this one could win my vote... But who knows, the deadline's still far away [extended], so I think we'll be able to see more... Setting the pace, I hope the other entries would posses the kind of concept you have... Simple, objective, yet remains discreet of being a "help"... I bid you, good luck...
Filipino - domestic worker, "katulong."
This is how foreigners describe our people... Are we not yet ashamed enough? I saw plenty of maids in Japanese animations and art... It was splendid and beautiful, but only in their culture... And yes, most of them were found in the Hentai genre... I think a lot of people here already know that - especially the men... So that aside, can we just give the Japanese that pleasure and not ours?
~I'm glad, though... This artist came up with something out of the box... If only I can draw as well as I used to, I would've came up with probably the same thing - simple and not overrated and common... Alas, I'm a poet... Words and feelings are my art...
Nice job, sir/ma'm...
