Dude, your stuff is so freaking sweet and awesome! These step-by-steps are very helpful, and I have already felt so inspired and motivated to try new things!

But I do have one small question, about how you draw. I've noticed that you first outline your drawings in black, and then proceed to cell shading. But then the black lineart disappears and then shading becomes more detailed. So what goes on there? Do you remove the black lineart layer, or do you just color over it with the rest of the shading and whatnot?

Fantastic work on the finishing of this picture! "The Mighty" is also really awesome!!

The portrayal of the characters is JUST like the show. Kudos!

Keep up the great work, and GO TEAM VENTURE! x3

dude your perfect bla bla bla everyone tells you that
but there is one thing i don't like about your drawings the skin tones of the characters you draw are always the same
not talking about this one only cause i have noticed they all look like like they have the same skin
and again not talking about race differences cause obviously there the difference is noticed
i am talking about different tones like darker or redish or paler
and again i know that you do consider them but in the end to the final result you cant make em apart

what first time you ever read someone's constructive criticism?
just because someone is great at what he does, does not mean they are absolutely perfect
You know there is always room for improvement, always

and i hate when people comment with just an avatar/emoticon
were you bored or what? otherwise posting it it's plain lame.

Well, the guy in the back.... he's pale.

Anyways, you're ragging on someone for not responding to constructive criticism, but I would hardly call your criticism constructive. I can see your remark on the skin tones, but you start it off with, and I quote...

"dude your perfect bla bla bla everyone tells you that "...

People just say things like "Your work is Perfect!" when they admire someone, it's not like they actually are telling him he's a perfect person. You just sound as though you're trying to be demeaning. So naturally, someone is going to respond to you in kind.

And I'm not trying to be rude, I'm trying to point out the fact that you're being aggressive when you don't really need to be.

alpin-j In reply to Almaloria [2011-06-16 20:50:27 +0000 UTC]

the fact is that it came up a little rough and i agree with you
I am often very sweet and don't intend to be otherwise but it happens sometime
even though i still desire what i said to be taken in consideration
cause even now the guy in the back is a little pale, you can see it in the flats but after that it's not that easy to distinguish
and i do believe that he is perfect since he has established a style and i admire that
i have seen crappier art (to my point of view ) that different tone skin is there and make the characters pop out even more
otherwise you become like some manga artists that draw beautifully but all the characters look alike

Almaloria In reply to alpin-j [2011-06-17 01:23:04 +0000 UTC]

I understand where you're coming from. The skin tones ARE very similar to one another. I do love the art and his style, though I would have to agree with the fact that they are all fairly dark, save for possibly the dude in the back.

Personally, I struggle with skin tones. It is THE hardest thing for me to manage, and when I try to gradually shade and all of that and still keep things looking natural, I always fail. I feel it's one of the most difficult things for me besides some facial features and hands. x_x

You? Skin tone? I feel Picard conveys the feeling perfectly. I wouldn't mind if you weren't so long winded- And the fact that you're like- COMISSIONS! I WANT YOUR POINTS OR MONEYZ. Only give critique if you have a flying fuck of an idea what you're on about.

This is gorgeous. I LOVE how you diversified their expressions. I feel like it accomplishes where most artists fail when they try to adapt characters with such strong personalities to their own style. Also, the coloring alternates between soft and vibrant in all the right places. A great piece.

Wow this is fantastic! Love the lighting you do before the eyes! Transforms the picture. Wish my pencilling was that crisp. Do you just delete the pencilled layer or do you go over it?

Also how did you get a thumbnail of the finished pic in the description I've been trying to do that for yonks. Sorry about all the questions! Just amazed

well with digital programs you work with layers, the out-line was on a layer, and color on a different layer.

You can toggle the layers to be invisible so the person probably toggled it invisible and worked from there on.

Sunfirmation In reply to fanofnaruto [2011-05-15 15:43:27 +0000 UTC]

but how does it look so.. neat?
When I take the outline off, it doesn't look right.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fanofnaruto In reply to Sunfirmation [2011-05-15 17:27:20 +0000 UTC]

well where the outline has gone it needs a little patching up xD after all you lost a whole bunch of pixels ridding of the lines.

If it helps, set the opacity of the layer to 20% or a % your comfortable and then patch up the other layer until it looks like you want it to
