Description
Here the trailer of a met production of Berlioz's Faust [link]
I did not like the music much or the adaptation of the story, but the mis-en-scene is really stunning.

Opera.
And yeah, it was fantastic. :3 She played the demon Mischief, and by God, she was adorable! >w< Her character threw a little temper-tantrum onstage.

Linda cita. No sabrìa decirte!

Hansito suena demasiado adorable.

Oh hello there Mephisto, my favourite villain of all time written by one of my favourite poets ever and one of the funniest characters I've ever read:
LOL'ing from here to Heaven.

Yes, he's the best, so much more lovable than Faust. I kept on reading, not for Faust or Gretchen (though her story is really moving) but for Mephisto.(I love that he remains a comical character to the very end, losing Faust's soul for being distracted by the derrière of some cute flirtatious angels)
-I envy you for knowing German-

Oh yes, oh yes, that bit was just... too much. I can't help but laugh everytime I think of it! Goethe was a damn genius, period.
Aw shucks, my German is actually terrible and mostly self-taught

yes, that's one of the best parts. Only Goethe could pull of such a scene.
well I can't tell because I only know very, very few words in German (but I'd love to learn. I always wanted to learn Russian and German, so I could read Dostoyevsky and Goethe in their original languages )

Well, we're talking about the same guy who made the protagonist of one of his plays speak such a win line as: "Er aber, sag's ihm, er kann mich im Arsche lecken!".
I'm in the process of learning both right now: German on my own, occasionally pestering German-speaking penpals, and Russian in a uni class - that sadly is coming to an end :C And, I love them both! Hope you will have a chance to get to learn these beautiful languages sooner or later

Mephistopheles is one of my favourite characters ever.
It's funny, today I just took a psychological test, "Who are you in German philosophy?" And I was Goethe.

Haha, awesome! Goethe is love. any link to that test?
By the way, last year a german movie about Goethe's life was made. Have you seen it? I haven't yet, but I want to.

Mephisto! truly cheerful as well as evil. I can't think of a better companion for Faust
I've never seen Berlioz' Faust(I've seen some of Gounod' Faust, not a very good adaptation but Mephistopheles' song,Le veau d'or est toujours debout,is pretty good ), video you linked to seems to have unusual composition. very interesting.

That's exactly what I like from Mephisto, he's always in such a good mood. I'd love to travel with him
I haven't watched Gounod's version, but I have heard countless times the soldier's chorus
Yes, I loved the way they used projections and the stage divided in panels. It's an amazing production, it really worked.
