Description
I tried out charcoal for the first time in quite a while, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it. I used varying hardness vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, and charcoal pencils.Reference photo: Oklahoma, 1989 i.pinimg.com/originals/68/df/7…

Nice use, the swirl effect in the tornado is spot on, and I love the swirled style of the side trees, reminds me of impressionist sketches

Wow, this is one of my favorite pieces of yours I've seen lately! It's got such a powerful style that is so complementary to the medium. It's so forceful and intense. The composition is also fantastic, and every change you made from the reference works towards it in a deliberate way.

I'm glad! If you're just getting started, I'd recommend just using vine charcoal at first. All you need beyond that is a kneaded eraser and paper, maybe a tortillon, and you could have everything you need for probably under $10. It's a lot of fun, it requires some patience but I like feeling the picture take shape under my hands.

At first glance I'd say that there isn't a lot of details in this but that's what makes this piece so unique. Very nice, I like how the twister actually appears to have motion in it.
