Description Yeah, I've got on the bandwagon here.

This is Derpy (also known as Ditzy Doo) from Hasbro's My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. She was made from a McDonald's Rainbow Dash I found at a thrift store one day.

She sports and complete body re-paint, new tail, and is sealed with matte varnish. She also has her googly eyes, but since she's sideways in the pic, you can't see them.

I'm thinking about selling her. I wonder what someone would be willing to pay?

She's my first custom pony, so she's not perfect (the white paint on her cutie mark is raised, and if you touch the base of the tail, it's kind of hard because of the glue), but the flaws aren't really noticeable. Not bad for a first try.

Note: This one has already been spoken for, but I have another that's for sale. And, if anyone wants one, I'll be happy to make another.

Sorry. He's been on vacation so I can't ask him.

well for the price I would say 10 dollars is pretty good. give or take how much you paid for the base and the paint. also consider how much time you spent on her.
I've never sold a custom before but I have quite a few WIPs.

Yeah, I was thinking 10-15. I actually sold a better-made one for 15 not long ago. Even though this one is spoken for, I do have another that's available for purchase.

Although I have 0 interest in buying, I'd pay $12.50-$15.00 USD tops for something like this.

Great work.

Thank you! That's about the price I was thinking of, too, considering she's not perfect. I just needed some input.
I'm glad you like her.

How long did this take you? Looks amazing btw, especially for a first try!

Hmm..I'm not really sure. I sort of worked on it off and on for a few months, and I think the only reasons it took that long was because I only half knew what I was doing, and kinda had to pump myself up to work on what was essentially a new experience.

...that, and I messed up more than once and had to start over/cover up the mistakes...

Who gets rid of McFonalds toys to a thrift store!! HATERS! I might do this to my RD one, cause they really fucked up the hair on her, it's all orange mainly LOL!

IKR? I think she was in a pack of toys that were donated all together, because there were a lot of McDonald's toys there when I found her. She was the only pony, though.

And, I agree, wrong eyes, wrong hair, WRONG cutie mark. She didn't look like RD at all. The tail is now blonde barbie hair, and I used a non-toxic paint stripper to get rid of the other colors.

How did you take the tail out?

QuoteCentric In reply to SMOR3S [2012-06-10 01:49:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, for this one, I made the rookie mistake of cutting it off. That meant there was still some hair in the hole. A friend told me later that if you boil the rump for a little while (like, when you're sterilizing the doll. 30 seconds or so.), the glue can loosen up enough for you to carefully pull it out, stem and all. I tried that with a Celestia toy I got later, and it does work, but I do emphasize being careful, because my friend says that sometimes the plastic can get so loose that it tears off with the hair.

Thanfully, even though I didn't do that with Derpy's tail, I still managed to glue the new tail in with fabric glue using the technique in this video [link] for how to add the middle part of the doll's hair. I also used a toothpick to poke all the glued parts in evenly.

How much do customs usually sell for?

QuoteCentric In reply to SMOR3S [2012-06-10 02:22:11 +0000 UTC]

I...personally have no idea. I've seen anywhere from 20 bucks to 500. It just depends on how detailed the custom is, how much time the artist put into it, and how much they think is a fair exchange for all their work.

I might make some customs and sell them, cause I really need to start saving cash for BronyCon 2012!

That's cool! Good luck! I will say though, customs are a lot harder than they look to get right. Do you have all the supplies you need?

And, just out of curiosity, how much do you think this Derpy is worth?
